Our company has lost money for three years in a row (vending machine business), and to save what’s left we’re being bought out by another vending machine company. As of Friday 18th June I have no employment. I can apply to the buyer company to see if they need me to continue my position, but there’s no guarantee whatsoever.
Major bummer. I like the people I work with a lot, and this is the only job I have ever had that I did not spend all day watching the clock and praying for it to be quitting time.
Not that job hunting is a picnic for anyone, but I have no degree beyond high school and no special marketable skills. Finding employment above the level of day labor or flipping burgers took me months last time. I’m 43 and I’m getting too damn old to keep starting over from zero. When I do get another job I’ve got to make some serious plans about just how I’m going to stay employable for the next 25 years, especially since losing your job every 3-6 years seems to be the norm these days.
