My kids are off to a herse show, mit SVENGOULI!

Their mom died a year ago Thursday. I don’t get it, but Svenghouli?

Could you repeat the question?

Hearse show, I get. Svenghouli -> ghoulish -> ghoul-> ghost, maybe?

Why are they “treating” you to these lovely puns?

You sure it isn’t Svengoolie? I’ve stumbled across his show on MeTV while channel surfing; he comes across as a pale imitation of Ghoulardi.

Don’t harsh on my Svengooli. I love that MeTV show. He so stupid he’s funny. And he shows a different cool, campy movie, every week.

I believe I speak for many in saying WHAT DA HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?! In a long litany of posts on this board (by many others), this is close to a top-ten contender for most confusing.

Please explain…or don’t, as you wish, I doubt that I will be returning to this thread.

Well that was rude.

There were a lot of these TV horror movie hosts appearing on local channels. In Philly there was Dr. Shock. Stayed pretty much out of the movie but then became incredibly annoying when he started featuring his baby daughter on the show. He was a local magician, fairly well skilled. I met him a couple of times at a local magic shop.

Beckers, you want rude, I can do rude; but not outside the pit.

And I think I am justified in being confused, but if you would like to elucidate what the OP’s point was, I would be most appreciative.

Beckers? How cute.
No I couldn’t enlighten you. It’s not my place.
I do think he was having a prob with his computer, though.

I get Svengoolie’s monthly newsletter (don’t judge me!). He appeared at a local Hearse Club this afternoon:

Yeah, Elvira Mistress of the Dark started on L.A. TV. She followed Seymour, and there was some other guy even earlier.

And who can forget Count Floyd?

Vampira is considered the first, starting in the '50s. I never saw her show but I assumed the Elvira character was based on her.

I think these horror movie programs were self-parodies that made Joe’s character more of a nostalgic representation than anything else.

I remember Dr Shock as a kid in the 60’s 70’s (South Philly/Camden).

I remember liking the show and my Dad telling me he was one of many guys doin the same schtick, but I don’t remember his kid.
I also remember thinking Elvira was a cheesy ripoff of the Dr.

His show started on late night, then moved to the afternoon after picking up a local soda bottler as a sponsor. He turned more campy then and his daughter was a prop he used to shill for the soda company. I stopped watching soon after but he was on for a few more years. He died pretty young at 42, he made himself look older in makeup and a lot of people may not have realized that. I met him when he was in his early thirties, but I was in my early teens and didn’t have much perspective on age yet.

Maybe you have to be from the Chicago area, but the post was 100% intelligible to me.

[Robert Towne]Forget it, Beck, It’s Dropzone.[/Robert Towne]

It’s all clear now.

I understood him.

I got it. I didn’t know about the hearse show, but I know who Svengoolie is. I watch MeTV, too.
