This is a pretty good PMV. (Pony Music Video.) (Also, youtube link.) (And the music’s a bit loud I think.)
PMVs are fun, but check this out :
Oh. My. GAWD. Lebowski ponies going pony bowling FTW!
Holy God, there’s actually a song in this one! Did anyone else notice Applejack say “if’n” a couple of times?
The last episode was excellent, but I saw the ending a mile off.
As soon as Tank put on the sunglasses, I knew he was 20% cooler. The song was 4 minutes long, so I don’t know if it will get on my nerves quickly, but I am glad there FINALLY was one. My kid was overtired and alternated between hysterical laughter and hysterical crying (afraid of the falcon, not being old enough to know RD was going to pick Tank and was bothered by his sad faces).
I think the ending of Lesson Zero, where everyone was assigned letters to Celestia, is ending up being a really good thing. Sometimes Twilight’s involvement was so contrived, but this gives more of a natural freedom.
Fair rarity,
How old is your kid?
Following the two episodes (May the best pet win and the mysterious mare do well), if Dash keeps getting character building episodes like that, she won’t be as interesting a jerk anymore!
My kid is four, so it can be troubling sometimes because it’s not always easy tv, this Pony show. She started crying tonight watching Mare because Mare was taking Dash’s thunder. She’s a smart kid and sensitive, so she really feels stuff that other kids would just laugh off. When I show it to my nephew later this week, he’ll just crack up.
HA!

Anyone else think the second season is subpar so far? The animation and voice acting just seem a little off, and the plots aren’t as challenging or interesting as the first season. I’m finding myself either bored or annoyed at the episodes in this season.
I’m finding the songs aren’t as good and that the people who argued “don’t push for many songs, just make sure the ones you do are great” were right.
From what I understand, episodes are relationship-centered or adventure-centered and the ones so far have been mainly relationship-centered or even centered around the psychology of one particular pony.
I’ve been a bit “meh” about a few of the recent episodes, and the latter half of “Lesson Zero” has become something I outright dislike, but there have been some gems as well. This past week’s episode, for example, was one of the best of the season (with a great song to boot). For whatever reason, the writers seem to save their best for Rarity episodes.
So far, if I had to rank the second season episodes, I think they’d roughly parse out as follows:
On a par with the best of Season 1 (Comps: “Suited For Sucess,” “Sonic Rainboom,” “Party of One,” “Winter Wrap Up”)
Luna Eclipsed
Sweet and Elite
Good episodes (Comps: “Dog and Pony Show,” “The Best Night Ever,” “Dragonshy”)
The Return of Harmony (Parts 1 and 2)
Sisterhooves Social
May the Best Pet Win
The Cutie Pox
Mediocre episodes (Comps: “Boast Busters,” “Feeling Pinkie Keen”)
The Mysterious Mare Do Well
Crappy episodes (Comps: “Call of the Cutie,” “Over a Barrel”)
Lesson Zero (specifically, Twilight’s descent into lunacy)
Overall, I think the show’s still firing on most cylinders. I think the writing has been consistently sharp, the characters are still more interesting and nuanced than most adult sitcoms (much less other children’s cartoons), the voice acting remains top-notch, and the animation has been spectacular. The pacing has been more frenetic, to the show’s detriment, but IMO that’s been balanced out by the quantum leap in the quality and complexity of the animation and art design. The Canterlot background art and the various designs for Rarity’s outfits in “Sweet and Elite” are some of the best artwork the show’s ever produced.
Holy crap, did I just offer nuanced commentary on the fashion design of cartoon ponies? WHAT HAS THIS SHOW DONE TO ME AND WHY DO I LOVE IT SO
Pinkie Pie > Everypony else. That is all.
Welcome ot the herd, Xan.
Now, why are you so keen on Pinkie?
Because her happy bounciness is infectious. She’s also batshit crazy and that’s fun to watch.
I think Applejack and Rainbow Dash have the most grating voices.
Celestia is awesome for being a huge troll.
Both from the same voice actress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBHEb4UWpIc
I knew that actually.
