Prior to taking up with me my wife had hsd a rather bizarre experience whilst on holiday in Egypt. She had run out of money and accepted the offer of a local man to stay with him in his mother’s house until her familly sent her the necessary funds to pay for a flight back to England. He persuaded her to go through an Islamic marriage (conducted by his cousin) because his mother was concerned that they might have sex in her house. When the money came through she returned home. When she and I decided to get married she was worried that her experience in Egypt meant that she needed to get a divorce before she could marry me. I rang the Egyptian Embassy and they arranged for us to discuss the matter with a senior diplomat there. He explained that her Islamic marriage would not have gone on record and she was free to marry me. He totally ridiculed Islam … saying it was a danger to the stability and development of a modern Egyptian society. Several times people came in with papers for him to sign …they acted extraordinarily subservient towards him. “This goes on all day”, he said.

I went to Denny’s in 1987 and they had a menu item called the Grand iSlam. It was a big, dominating plate of food and all the waitresses were forced to take orders for it and serve it.

Or there might have been a smudge on the menu.
