My Misspent Youth - the MMP

Nope, not the Possum Squad either. I ran over a possum once. It made a loud THUMP under my wheel and died quickly (I hope :frowning: ). Then a few months later my car started rattling. I was on the interstate coming home and it got really loud. Since I couldn’t do anything about it, I turned up the radio. I’m so good at car maintenance.

Wanna know what that sound was? My timing belt about to break.
Three days and $1100 later, it was fixed. I’ve avoided the possums since.

Of course, this could be a family thing. In my family, if you hit an animal on the road its spirit will then inhabit your car and break something Expensive & Important. My parents have had to replace many shocks, struts, and other E&I items after running over animals. I ran over a bunch of frogs on 264 between G’ville and Cape Hatteras (otherwise known as You In Da Swamp) and broke down at the Hyde County Jail. My gas tank had water in it from years of condensation. That’s a story in itself.

ETA: Pugs, don’t forget Firday! (Which I originally typed as “don’t firget Firday”.

Your nickname just reminded me of my most recent advice mockery. Enjoy.

Wow, what is everyone smoking here this morning? I mean, we’re pretty weird normally anyway, but when squirrels start going “Weeeee!” even I, old hippie that I am, find myself scratching my head and going, “Whuuuuuh?”

It’s grey and gloomy here this morning, which matches my mood perfectly. So thanks for the laughs, guys. I needed that!

I agree, altered beebs sounds a lot like normal beebs, though.

I met the bitch skunk from hell once, who was trying to teach her four kits how to follow appropriately in her footsteps. Seriously. Papa Tigs’ brother was taking us on a tour of a big wildlife refuge, and Mama Skunk and her kits were crossing the little dirt road we were on. Except the kits decided to stop and see what this big brown thing coming down the road. So there was BIL backing the van sloooowly away from four curious little skunks, while Mama Skunk chittered angrily at them from the side of the road. We don’t know what they would have done to us, but we didn’t want to stick around to find out!

Would you send QD here when you’re through with her, LiLi? I could really use her help. Sigh.

Well, back to the salt mines. As in rush job that I couldn’t be arsed to work on much last night. Who invented this “work for a living” thing, anyway? Can we have him taken out and shot, please?

It’s because the thread grows so fast and there is so much to read that it is intimidating if you don’t start right on Monday and read throughout the week.

That’s why I didn’t jump in until recently.

Today I’m up and caffeinated at work, tonight is dinner with a friend.

Everytime I shift my chair something rattles, I don’t know what. Sometimes if I move it wrong it does this creaky cracking sound and I’m afraid it will crash under me one of these days. I keep asking for a new one, but I probably won’t get it until it does crash. I think the rattle is my jacket though, it sounds kinda like the zipper and the pull tinging together but they don’t seem to be in place to do that.

I just realized it’s the snaps, not the zipper. That’s moved so it won’t do it anymore, now time to start work.

That must have been on a weekend or when I was away. I’d think I’d remember that!

KeithT’s home sick today too. Would everyone please stop spreading germs?!

I think I’m going to take tomorrow off. I’ve got lots of vacation time, KeithT doesn’t, and my desire to be at work is really really low right now. So I might as well stay home and enjoy some peace and quiet. And a chance to bake. I want to try all of the recipes in Joanne Fluke’s books. If I’m not here on Monday, it means I’m buried beneath a giant pile of cookies!

Oh it was nothing. Nothing at all. You didn’t miss a thing.

Don’t ask.

Please *don’t ask.

Have you gotten to Cherry Cheesecake Murder yet? Such good cheesecake. I’ve done some of the recipes, but not even close to all of them. With only the two of us, it takes Hawkeyeop and I quite a long time to eat even one batch of cookies. Also, you may want to cut the recipe in half…that’s what I do a lot. (Some of her recipes make a TON of cookies.) oh oh oh, if you read Sugar Cookie Murder, there’a an entire cookbook at the end! I cheated though, I checked them all out from the library and then scanned the recipes into the computer…Then I can look through them as I want to and I don’t have to worry about spilling something on the library’s book. Good stuff.

:: hugs for MGB ::

I don’t know why I bothered to come to work today. Most of my lecture was me babbling in a croaky voice in-between coughs that would put a consumptive to shame. My students seemed disturbed.

Maybe I’ll cancel my evening class. Blech.

I’ve only read the first book so far. I was planning to copy the recipes I want somehow… I think we have a scanner, but I’m not sure if it works. If not, I’ll figure something out. Thanks for the idea of cutting the recipes in 1/2. I’ll probably do that, but if not, I have plenty of coworkers who don’t mind at all when I have left over desserts that I need to get rid of! They were quite helpful with Ree’s carrot cake (from here ) that I brought in earlier this week.

beebs, somehow I think I’m better off not knowing. :stuck_out_tongue:

**mousie ** - call beebs

Rosie and Beebs check your PMs.

Whew… I’m mostly catched up now. I think.

{{{MBG}}} Although I think I missed quite what for this time.

You’re saying that like it’s necessarily a bad thing

**Haze **-- hope you feel better. You’re thread about Olive getting her head stuck in a glass was hilarious

I, too, failed to find a difference between an unmedicated (I hesitate t osay “normal”) **Beebs **and the medicated one…

That site looks delicous!! I love baking. I wish I had more people to eat…I definately have the “Feed People Gene.” Poor Hawkeyeop is only one person. And I like to make stuff much more than I like to eat it. LOL My coworkers are all disgustingly health-concious, so baked goods don’t get eaten around here. :frowning:

My mom sent me what looks like a great recipe for “Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting.” I would love to use it on something. I need a Kitchenaid mixer…only $300…

Good morning, all–hey guess what? I found my braaaaaain under my pillow, yay! I was so tired last night I was pretty much incoherent but after a solid eight hours I’m feeling much better. Got my big ol’ mug of fresh ground, fresh brewed Elixir of Consciousness at my elbow, liberally adulterated with raw sugar, cinnamon and cream (NOT milk, honest to gosh whipping cream–it’s all I use. If I’m gonna go to hell, I’m gonna go in STYLE!) I also make up my own blend of coffee beans from the bulk bins at Winco–about 1/3 dark roast Rocket Java, about 1/3 Tanzanian Peaberry, then make up the rest with dark roast Sumatran, light roast Sumatra Mandheeling and whatever else strikes my fancy at the moment.

My daughter’s dog makes an admirable alarm clock, the little bitch–0700 on the dot and she’s ready to go out. By “ready” read “you will let me out now or I will whine and jump on the bed and LEECK-LEECK-LEECK-LEECK-LEECK-LEECK you until you do!” At home she has her own doggy door but here it’s up to the Pet Slaves to control the Apertures of Freedom and she’s figured that out right quick. After she got me up it was Pratchett’s turn to go racing about on the Thousand Room Dash until the SO finally got tired of it, put his harness on and kicked him outside too.

Speaking of Pratchett, did anyone catch the BBC miniseries made from “The Colour of Magic” and “The Light Fantastic” that aired Easter Sunday? It stars Sean Astin as Twoflower, is that cool or what? We’re in the process of acquiring it right now and I’ll let you know how it is–sounds terribly promising, though.

Yo, Bus Dude, what up wit’ you? Update, s’il vous plait! Don’t make me come after you, mister!

Tigs, sorry about the tail thing, hope it didn’t hurt too much!

beebs, just say NO to drugs, seriously–I think it unhinges you much more than is strictly good for you, just sayin’! Glad the toof thing wasn’t too traumatic.

and then check my reply

Blah! Hubby is “not talking to me” because I was so busy at work I didn’t answer his text message asking me when I was coming home, and then I had the audacity to not come home until 5:40pm. :frowning: Just shoot me, already- I’m never gonna get it right!

:: cheers :: I think the final plans for our mini-MMP fest for tomorrow evening have been made!! I can’t wait to meet you guys! :: bounces up and down excitedly ::

Did someone say Cream Cheese Frosting? perk I’ve had a hankering for cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting for a while now… methinks I’ll be baking up a batch this weekend, assuming I wake up feeling perky enough to Make Something Fancy.

My dad was in town last night for business and treated The Boy and me to dinner. We rarely see each other now that my dad lives in another city… he tends to make much more time for his GF’s kids and grandkids - they don’t know what a neglectful passive-aggressive jerk he can be, after all.

Meh, at least I got free dinner out of it.

It’s a grey day here, but at least it’s starting to feel spring-like outside. I’ve got quite the lovely view right now… we’re in a testing lab that overlooks the man-made pond, which in a few months will be overrun with canada geese and their young. Should be fun.

a co worker made some yummy carrot cake with real cream cheese frosting for Easter and brought in the leftovers. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
and don’t worry gang, there’ll be plenty of pics - not just of **beebs ** and mousie, but of little Jon as well

My Grandma made these yummy gingerbread squares with cream cheese frosting while we were visiting [sub]and she gave me the recipe… shh[/sub].

Cream cheese frosting is good on lots of things!

One more sleep then it is Friday!

I got an award yesterday for keeping my safety training at 100% for 2007 - I took a quick look at the goodies available this morning and I swear I saw a KitchenAid mixer

I also had my annual review yesterday whcih went much better than expected so I may even get a raise this year!
