Jill,
I was going through some things tonight, and I found a card that a dear friend sent to me after I lost my own mother. I believe this to be true, and I hope it comforts you as it did me when I read it.
Perhaps
they are not
the stars,
but rather openings
in Heaven
where the love
of our lost ones
pours through
and shines down
upon us
to let us know
they are happy.

Your experiece sounds like mine two years ago, although with my father-in-law. He was a most likeable cuss. I remember sitting up with him in the hospice(if one wants an example of a modern miracle, that’s one) on his next to last night. I can’t remember what I said to him, but I made him laugh(or cough, probably). You reminded me of this in your OP. I hope your mom and he are sharing a laugh about now somewhere. We should all be so lucky. Thanks for sharing.
JillGat,
There is nothing that I can say that has not already been said better by others, nor do I have any magic words to ease the grief you must feel.
As inevitable as death is, it’s never easy to deal with it, when it takes a loved one.
Your class and dignity, both in this thread and with respect to your board demeanor in general, is a fitting tribute to your mother, and her life.
And of course, you are right in knowing that your mother’s memory will always live on in you.
My condolences.
My condolences.
What a fine daughter to help her mom retain her own level of dignity in passing. She’s smiling about that one.

What a wonderful woman your mom raised.
