My mom made me quite my job. *bares teeth*

Yeah, so, I get a shitty report card. I didn’t fail anything, and yet, she MAKES me quite my job and not even give any friggin notice?I didn’t fail cuz I didn’t do my homework (because, in fact, I did) It was becase my calculator had games on it. Which I deleted.

So tomorrow is my last day. Me quiting will leave 5 poeple to run the store all week long. instead of the usual 12. Do you think this is fair??? because, call it angst if you will, but I do NOT.

Oh stop whingeing.

I think your mum has your best interests at heart by the sound of it. Pull yer socks up and work harder next semester, otherwise you’ll end up working forever in a crappy little store for lousy wages.

And there’s no such thing as fair when you’re 15.

You’re seven people?

I’m confused. Did you fail something or not? First you say you didn’t even fail anything, then you say you failed because of your calculator games.

actually, almost. 4 poeple were fired, and 3 poeple quit.
“no such thing as fair” I know. It blows.

I love how the automatic reaction when a teenager posts a rant is: Oh, shut up.

Anyway, magic8ball, that does really suck. I personally think it’s good that you take your work responsibilities seriously. How did games on your calculator make you do badly? You weren’t listening in class?

melandry, I meant that I did bad, not failed… though I did get 50% in one class…

Laurange, thats exactly it. while the teacher was talking about polynomials, I was playing tetris.

Ohhh, do I know about that. I had Nibbles on my calculator in grade 11.

I got SO good at that game during calculus.

lol. I also had solitaire, battletanks, 2 shooting games, and hangman.

If they feel comfortable firing 4 people, and then 3 quit (simultaneouly), it sounds like the kid of place that’s used to some turnover, anyway. They probably won’t notice you’re gone.

Enjoy your time off. [old person voice] Your mother will not be fucked with. Hope this will be a lesson to you, Kiddo. [/old person voice].

I know the feeling, I had Tetris on my calculator, too…sometimes I would answer questions without even looking up.

50% isn’t a failing grade? Wow. That’s a different scale then I’m used to.

Tough shit. I’d like to congratulate your mom for doing her job and overseeing her kid. Your job right now is to be a student. Whatever silly store job you had isn’t important. Teenagers should work during the summer, and be students the rest of the year. I learned that as both a kid, and now a parent. At one point or another I had to force all 3 of my kids to quit the stupid part-time job they had because it affected their grades.
Let’s face it, if you spent the same amount of time studying that you spent working, you probably could be an honor student!

Great… More knuckle dragging from pkbites.

:stuck_out_tongue: you don’t know my mom. Shes simple. And I NEVER ONCE neglected my schoolwork because of my job. Not ONCE. I did all the homework. I studied for the tests. Its because I wasn’t paying attention that I got bad grades.

OK, you screwed up, got caught.

Lesson: there’s no hiding from a bad report card (insert irresponsible advice about keeping up appearances).

Time to move on.

Good luck!

If your job required spelling, I can see why your mom made you quite your job.

Sorry, m8b but your mom is right. Right now your main job is school and I hope you treat it as such in the future. Anything else is a distraction. Put that enthusiasm into school right now, there’ll be plenty of time to deal with working later. Sorry you had to quit though, as it sounds as though you liked working there. Your mom wasn’t exactly fair, but hey, life is seldom fair.

Heh. When I was in school, the calculator itself was a “game”. We weren’t even allowed to use them in class.

Oh…topic. Well, I can see your reasoning, if the job itself wasn’t the cause of you losing your job, but being a mom of a fifteen year old myself, I see where she’s coming from, too.

She’s far more interested in your grades than the job, and rightly so. I’m afraid I’d have probably done the same thing as she did. No distractions period if grades are falling.

Get bent!
Almost everyone here has the same position as I do.

I’ve raised 3 kids, the youngest being 17. I can claim wisdom from experience. The little bit of chump change a kid gets from a job is not worth poor grades and other problems it can cause.
When Magic8ball tries to get into college, they’re going to be looking at acedemics as well as extra-ciricular activities like school clubs. Some times a record of perticipation in these can make up a little bit for lower grades.
But one thing admissions boards don’t give a rats ass about is a stupid little part-time job the kid thinks is so important.
“Oh, I have a 1.2 GPA, but look, I made $5.80/hr at Dairy Queen”
impresses nobody. Except Hastur, maybe.

My parents made me quit my job when my grades fell below a C-.
I was super pissed. But then I realized that I’d be working my entire life anyway, so why the fuck get a head start on the slavery. I can’t believe how stressed out some of my friends get over their jobs at a drive through. It’s fucked up.
