My Musings On First Contact

I think I already alluded to this in another thread. But I will use this thread to expound on my theories of First Contact in general.

First of all, I do believe that there are very advanced ET’s out there. And I do believe Interplanetary travel is possible. Why they choose not to reveal themselves confuses me too. But I personally at least am drawn to Zoo Hypothesis. (I also am a little drawn to Ancient Astronaut Theory. But that would be overdoing it for one thread I think  .)

Anyway, if we do ever make contact, it just seems to me that it could never happen face-to-face. Different planetary species would have different atmospheric and gravitational needs. I think when advanced alien races communicate with each other, they do it on a virtual or simulated plane. The metauniverse is already becoming a reality here. Use your imagination.

I think in a previous thread, I said quantum entanglement could facilitate long distance relationships. But then I got a chorus of people telling me that wouldn’t work. Okay then, they’d be in the next room from each other. Would that satisfy your requirements :slightly_smiling_face: ? But different gravity/etc. needs would rule out face-to-face contact. Am I wrong? (And Star Trek further forecasts that aliens will have offspring with each other. Are they joking?)

I’ll leave it there for now. But I will conclude that some day advanced ET’s may just ditch their bodies altogether and become disembodied brains. That only brings up the question of how they reproduce. But I have no answer to that question. Maybe they just don’t. Who knows.

Oh, and I would like to take this time to discount the stories of people who claim to have been abducted. Give me a break. Take the Barney and Betty Hill case. She said at one point her abductors inserted a needle in her navel. If a race had the technology to traverse incredible distances, do you think that they’d still be using hypodermic needles? Silly.

Any thoughts on what I just said? :slightly_smiling_face:

Why not just send a robot to Earth?
Presumably it could combine programming with remote control…

Sure, this is just Mundane Pointless Stuff I’d like to share before breakfast though.

I think there could be very advanced ET’s out there, but it could also be that the odds for that happening to any biosphere is beyond astronomical. We can’t use our own existence as evidence since we wouldn’t be musing about this if we didn’t exist.

I don’t think interstellar travel is possible. Interplanetary we’ve already practically done, interstellar is just too far.

They’re not showing themselves to us because they either do not have the capability or do not exist or are are unaware of us, or all three.

Ancient aliens is not worth anyone’s attention other than as an exercise in analyzing pseudo-science.

Did you know that the moon has a much lower gravity than Earth and no atmosphere at all?

How about sending a letter first?

Star Trek is Science Fantasy. The have a panspermia technobabble explanation for the similarities of species, but in the end they are not “joking”, they are writing entertainment, not “forecasts”.

And though alien abductions are not real there’s always going to be a place for biopsies in medical science.

If these advanced E.T.s are a real thing and they got here, at all. What’s doubt about their ability to overcome the relatively small problem of gravity and breathing?

I want to believe there’s other beings out there.

I just wanna be friends with them.
:relaxed::alien:

If anyone could be, it would be you.

They may adopt you as their mother.

Actually, non contact is a very logical and wise choice for them. `We are a violent predatory species. Aliens observing us would see how our main concern is dominating one another in a myriad of different ways; militarily, economically, culturally, etc. Even our sports are designed to produce a “winner” that is celebrated because he/they vanquished all others. We are destroying our environment, overpopulating our planet, and threatening our own survival.

Secondly, compared to a civilization that’s advanced enough for interstellar space travel, we are technologically primitive. We have absolutely nothing to offer them that would make communication and interaction desirable. Just imagine if we met humans from 5,000 years ago. They would have absolutely nothing to offer us. Let’s see, we’ll trade an iPhone for a stone hatchet? Nah.

They could be space anthropologists (exoanthropologists? Is that a thing?). As long as they don’t tell us they’re observing-it would ruin the whole experiment.

Why would disembodied brans travel so far to meet disembrained bodies?

A tiny little typo. Yet it conjures up so many questions.

Do ETs eat. And further more do they eliminate. Where is their booty? Do they have specifically designed rooms for this?

I believe we are a higher intelligence.

Nice!:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Interstellar travel is almost certainly possible - but interstellar travel that allows wars, trade, and popping off to Alpha Centauri for a bit of lunch not so much. System reliability keeps improving and we have plenty of room to improve what kind of speeds we can obtain, so robot ships and later generation ships seem plausible if we have the will to do it.

Let me introduce you to the speed of light. :grinning: Hundreds of years between responses would sure ruin the flow of a thread.

12 Possible Reasons We Haven’t Found Aliens

My personal belief is #11

11. Earth is deliberately not being contacted. On Earth, we have policies about contacting indigenous peoples; it’s possible that the same thing could be happening with us. Just like in Star Trek), advanced alien societies may enforce rules that limit contact only to species that attain a lofty degree of technological or cultural evolution.

Except the reasoning is flawed. ET’s have accessed our internet and are completely freaked out by Rule 34.

ETA: If you have to Google Rule 34, don’t do it at work.

Remember that Imperial probe droid on Hoth in The Empire Strikes back? It gave me literal nightmares as a kid. It was even scarier than the interrogation robot.

So, yeah. Robots.

Oh now, I’d say their lack of contact so far means they haven’t discovered Rule 34, or have not understood it’s impact. I mean, it implies we’re down for pretty much anything sexually, if you get us in the right mood. Come on down and party, guys. Will trade sex for secrets to FTL travel.

As long as it’s Arcturian.

Why stop at 12?
