"My Name is Earl," 10-18-06

Some favorite lines:

“Sometimes great things just happen by accident, like the way peanut butter and chocolate came together… or Mount Rushmore…”

Ralph: “Uh, yeah, just for the record, your Mom doesn’t like the under-the-arms around-the-sides double-boob-scoop.”

“Fine, I’ll do it tonight after the show. But once I consummate your mom, I’m officially your step-dad. And I won’t stand for any more threats on my life.”
And the visual with Ralph behind Earl’s mom when she bent down to mess with the lamp. That cracked me up.

This line, and Catalina’s, and the one about the “double-boob-scoop,” all had me laughing so hard I thought I was going to give myself a stroke. How these guys can deliver their dialogue with a straight face amazes me.

Yes! Every episode gives a little more of a glimpse into that nutty and violent family of hers.

I saw Roseanne Barr is in an upcoming episode - anyone know who she’s playing? (Hopefully one of Joy’s relatives) :stuck_out_tongue:
VCNJ~

Yes, he played Mr. Heckles, and Giovanni Ribisi played Phoebe’s brother.

One of my favorite references, near the end, was Earl commenting that no matter how good looking the bass player was, the girls always fall for the lead singer.

Of course this was not true of lead singer Jeff Bebe of Stillwater, who was always jealous of Russell Hammond, the band’s lead guitarist (ok not the bassist, but still…)

Yeah, I kept flashing to Stillwater also with this episode. I love that movie.
Another good episode.

I watched this with my son (age 11) and I laughed my ass off at the Red Rover game. Then I had to explain the game to Dominic, because apparently it’s too violent/dangerous for the kids to play these days.

This was also my least favorite episode of the season so far. I knew the probable resolution would be the old guy hooking up with Ralph’s mom about five minutes into the episode. The only thing I really liked about it were some of the one liners and the fact that they showed old people as sexual beings.

Kids can’t play Red Rover any more?

Oh for Og’s sake…!

Alot of kids got injured in Red Rover at my school. Its essentially volunteering to be clotheslined. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is banned.

That and Dodgeball and Smear the Queer.

I’d say it’s easily the best episode of the season and one of their best ever.

Ribisi’s manic intensity adds some real flavor. The Joy quotient was low. The random-silliness quotient was high (Red Rover, “she wasn’t young, but she was conscious,” can’t have sex because of the squirrel, ad infinitum). The double-shot of items from the list was nice.

I was cackling throughout the entire show.

Ribisi really does do Psycho Drunk well. Most of the people on that show I say, “Yeah, I knew him/her.” With Ralph and Donnie I say, “Yeah, I knew some guys heading there so I stayed away from them.”

Earl’s gotten mighty picky for a guy who’s not getting any. Ralph’s mom has a few miles on her but the oil’s been changed regularly. In real-life Earl’s circle the womenfolk start looking like her by, oh, Jason Lee’s age so he’d be about ready to settle down with her.

And, to toss in a gratuitous snippet of the poetry of Bonnie Parker in honor of Ralph’s mom:

Now “Sal” was a gal of rare beauty,
Though her features were coarse and tough

Wait a sec, she was never called by name! Just Ralph’s Mom and Mrs Mariano.

She’s going to play a woman who used to manage the trailer park.
