My Name is Earl 11/16/2006

That was the funniest episode of any show I have seen in a long time. It was at the same time my favorite episode of any show since Northern Exposure went off.

Christian Slater was great. He nailed the stoner and the hippie perfectly. Heck I know that character he lives up in Beacon. He was a stoner and now he lives 100% for the environment. Good guy, good educator. Met him through Clearwater.

Randy seeing in claymation was amazing I could not stop laughing. “Are you looking at my tits”. Randy’s huge smile when Catalina went bouncing out.

Earl trying to change the world and every selection of music in the background helping to tell the story and not just being background music. That was incredibly well done. I loved them getting into the Global warming issue. I love Crabman’s intelligent response and Joy’s completely stupid response.

Damn, that was great television.

I found the claymation rather gimmicky. Other than that, solid gold.

Heh, Granola Grandmom: “Dibs on middle.”

Slater’s best performance since True Romance.

And the little details are so amazing.

Stoner: I can see your pickle.
Randy: (turns and looks at Earl’s crotch)

Or Granola Grandma’s unshaven armpits – with white hair, to match her head – and the claymation grandma sporting the same pits.

That was a terrific episode!

I was able to catch that Catalina talked about dancing and how expensive Claymation is during her Spanish interlude. But my knowledge of the language is rudimentary.

Loved it! Claymation characters were great. Joy stealing a lie detector - which worked all too well - and missing the irony of it all: “Hey, dummy, disconnect me from this thing so I can have a normal discussion with Earl!” Earl and Randy deciding they didn’t need to take a shower for a week on the commune… until they decided that they REALLY needed to, right away! The stoner taking a snack from the fridge while they’re actually carting it away.

I’m smiling now, just thinking about it…

I’ll never remember how it goes but my favorite part was when Earl was trying to explain Global Warming. My stomach hurt after that.

“Hollywood” Steve Huey from Yacht Rock had a non-speaking, extended cameo as one of the hippies.

This show is C:cool::cool:L!

I would like to know her translation. And Joy’s Incredible Moving Boobs were hilarious.

Did anyone catch the end, when Joy and Darnell are in bed talking about their family, and decide not to do Thanksgiving?

Next Thursday is Thanksgiving. How much you want to bet the show isn’t on next week?

“Hey Lance Armstrong! Don’t you know ridin’ bikes gives you nut cancer?”

I loved that. Joy is the best character on that show, hands down.

I loved the “Friends” re-enactments, especially when Earl and Randy came back and the hippies were all splashing in a wading pool and holding umbrellas.

Randy: “Hey, I’ve seen this episode. Monica and Chandler hook up.”

I agree. Jamie Pressley was on Leno this week, to announce her engagement and pregnancy. The writers aren’t going to work the pregnancy into the show though. She said that’s something writers do later, when the show is tanking.

I dunno. I guess I’m the only one who didn’t care for this episode all that much. The Christian Slater bits were good, but the Claymation did absolutely zero for me. Randy shaking his head and closing his eyes over and over (in the exact same way) got on my nerves. I thought it could have been left out entirely and felt like a way to extend the show for ten minutes. I wish they would have shown the Office first; then I wouldn’t have had to miss the first 20 minutes of Supernatural.

I kind of liked the claymation. There was little enough of it that it didn’t get tiresome, and I thought they got Earl’s and Joy’s facial expressions down perfectly. When Joy asked Randy if he was looking at her boobs then shot him that sidelong sneer with narrowed eyes, I thought it was hilarious.

My favorite part was the sentiment paraphrased like:

I couldn’t use products tested on rabbits, even though I felt bad for them and how their fur would no longer be shiny and clean.

A lot of good bits, but for some reason, Darnell holding the turtle (who is wriggling like crazy) while trying to keep cool was a highlight for me. Not among the best eps, but still a good job on a show I consistently like.

I must have missed a line or something, but why was Earl carrying around a can after he decided to not warm the globe?

That was the can of used motor oil that Joy said Crab Man hadn’t had time to dump in the creek yet.

Good episode. Not great. The Claymation did nothing for me.
The Friend’s re-enactment was pretty hilarious. The white Jamaican guy from the Starburst commercials was one of the hippies.

Here it is, taken from the Wikipedia entry:

In “Robbed a Stoner Blind” (2.8), Catalina’s cartoon delivers the following message: “Esto iba a ser yo sacándome la cabeza limpiando polvo con ella, pero los dibujos animados son tan costosos, así mejor me puedes ver bailar-r-r-r!” (“This was going to be me taking my head off to dust with it, but animation is so expensive, it’s better you see me dance!”)
