My Name is Earl -- December 4, 2008 Episode

What did you guys think of last night’s episode?

Didn’t really like it. Randy’s character seemed “different”. Sorry I can’t be more specific right …

I didn’t watch all of it. The crazy guy (Raylon?) was like fingernails on a blackboard.

Loved the pink tee shirts! I wondered about Randy’s “Flasher” until I saw Earl’s – “I pulled my brother’s pants down.”

I thought there were some funny lines, but this show has become sort of a placeholder for me. A couple good moments, maybe a nice shot or two of Joy in a bra or tank top, but otherwise it seems kind of played.

It wasn’t as good as some other episodes this season. As usual, Joy has all the best lines–she never fails to crack me up!

I guess Catalina jumping up and down is a running joke now. (not that I’m complaining)

I loved this show the first season, but I think the concept has reached the end of its useful life.

I thought it was OK. Man, last season people complained when they shook everything up and Earl was in jail, then later in a coma. Now that the show’s back to its original format, people still complain. There have been several good episodes this season.

[ul]
[li]“The Magic Hour,” with Seth Green as the terminal cancer patient whose movie Earl helped to finish. [/li]
[li] “Joy in a Bubble,” where Joy has the toe infection and has to be quarantined. [/li]
[li] “Sweet Johnny,” with the stuntman with the short-term memory loss like Drew Barrymore in “50 First Dates.” [/li]
[li] “Quit Your Snitchin’,” where Earl’s birthday gift of a car for Randy is stolen, and he’s no longer protected from being a snitch.[/li]
[li] And the previous episode about the tornado, “Nature’s Game Show,” was one of the best in the series where Joy “MacGuyvers” open the storm cellar.[/li][/ul]
This episode - I liked “The Adventures of Chuckleberry Flinn” and “Trazan, the Ape Man.” - “He’s got a cheetah named ‘Monkey.’”

Randy: Hey, Earl, he’s doing the theme to that TV show that comes on every couple of years about the people of different colors with super powers, like swimming real fast or throwing sticks real far.

Earl: Oh, yeah. I caught an episode of that once.

“Did you open the bathroom door and give your tub a choice, or are you just crazy?”

I also liked the hallucinations from the purple berries. Nice touch of surrealism. Sort of like when Randy accidentally ate some herbs and saw everything in Claymation in “Robbed a Stoner Blind.”

I think the show is far from having reached the end of its run. As far as I’m concerned, Earl has yet to jump the shark. Unless it’s on his list and he just hasn’t gotten around to it yet.

I liked this one. I enjoyed the interleaving of Trazan and the main story. It wasn’t great, but it was better than the ones with Earl in prison.

Another bit with Randy I liked:

“Wait a minute. You mean a globe is the Earth?”

Then later: “Hold on! A map is the Earth, too?”

Best lines of the show! That and Joy “having hormones” from her pregnancy.

Should I have recognized the Scottish actor who played Raynard (sp.?)?

I think this season is definitely better than last, and I still like it far more often than not, but I also wonder if the show’s about reached the end of what they can entertainingly do with the concept.

Well … the thought of that guy Raylin “doing God knows what with a raccoon …” is still making me sick to my stomach. More proof that drugs are bad for you, because it was the tainted berries that made him turn to the lady raccoon. Actually, the berries seemed to make people look like animals.

As you might be able to tell, I’m still … digesting this episode in my head.

The Scottish guy is the guy who played the unfortunate Spud in Trainspotting.
