She was in her mid- to late-eighties. Had had several falls. The last one, she broke a thigh bone. Had surgery, died of cardiac arrest last Friday while in the recovery facility. This sequence of events is actually quite common for the very elderly. After her fourth or fifth fall, I suspected she was not long for this world. However, I am saddened to hear of her passing.
Her relatives are cleaning out her house right now to get it ready for sale. It’s sad to see her stuff piled up in the driveway. Her children load up one pickup truck after another. Tables, chairs, potted plants. The accoutrements of a life, dispersed to new homes. Will any of these inanimate things bring smiles of fond remembrance to her loved ones? I hope so.
May her memory be a blessing.
