My network key changes on me. Can you help?

I need to log onto my wireless network at work.
I have been doing it, but yesterday, something went wrong and I don’t know what it is.
When I go into wireless network connection, my wireless network comes up.

In the window, I go to change advanced settings.
I then go to Wireless Network Connection Properties.
I then click on my preferred network.
I click on Properties.
I go to Network Key, and fill it in.
I click on OK, and I don’t get logged on.
I repeat steps, and the network key has been changed.
I think this is why I can’t log on.
Am I correct?
Can you help me to stop the changing aspect?
I ask my betters, and I think that the CFR is in charge of IT, because I get directed away from IT, and towards my desk, which is where the problem is, and no solution.

Thanks,
hh

OOOPS!
Apparently, I made a mistake.

Hold on till further notice!

OK, I’m back.
So, update: I asked a friend who has a friend. FOF said that I need to get the company’s IT department to reboot the gateway.
OK, I asked our people to reboot. Well, I asked a girl who said she would leave a message with the people that can do it.
To date, they haven’t, or else, they have and my computer isn’t connecting properly anymore.
Either they’re being jerks, don’t care, or still haven’t got the message.
I needed to take matters into my own hands, so, I got a Belkin wireless external card, or whatever they’re called. My new problem? My internal wireless card is apparently the default, and it doesn’t see the problem, so I can’t use the Belkin.
How does one disable the internal card, and make the Belkin the default?

Thanks,
hh

Before jumping to any conclusions, try deleting your preferred network profile, and recreating it from scratch. I have encountered wireless profiles that somehow get fubar’ed and deleting then recreating it fixes the problem.

If the card is indeed the problem, you can disable the internal card in the Device Manager.

How do I delete my network profile, and then recreate it? This network junk is pretty new to me. I have a home router, but I can’t even remember how I set that up, and IIRC, even when I did set it up, I just lucked into it working!

Thanks,
