My new favorite brewery

I like beer. Most beer. Almost all beer. So saying I have a favorite brewery is no real big deal. Over the years, my lust has fallen to Ommegang, Sierra Nevada, Dock Street, and many others. At the moment, I’m really enjoying Smuttynose from Portsmouth, NH. I first tried their Farmhouse Ale at a local Taco Mac. Devine. I picked up their IPA today and it is really well done. Balanced, hoppy without being over-bearing. Check 'em out of you haven’t had the pleasure.

Smuttynose makes some awesome brews, and my husband and I had a great tour of their brewery when we visited NH a few years ago. I also love their restaurant/brewpub in Portsmouth.

I’ll look out for it.

My favorite brewery is North Coast in Fort Bragg, CA. They make three of my all-time favorites: Borther Thelonious, Old Rapsutin and Pranqster and I have never had a beer from them I didn’t like.

I just looked at their website and they have a distributor here in Charlotte. I don’t recall seeing the name but I’ll look for them!

I miss Three Floyds now that I’m not in Chicagoland anymore, but I am much closer to Rogue here in SoCal, and will be in their back yard (along with many other fine craft breweries) when I move to Portland in a few months. Squeee!

If New England beers are your thing than Magic Hat out of Burlington, VT is exceptional.

Personally, I’ve never had a bad beer from Bluepoint Brewery in Patchouge, Long Island.

Cool. I’m not sure if I’ve had Smuttynose’s offerings or not, but they do sell a variety of their brews around here, so I’ll make sure to check them out. My all-around favorite brewery is Bell’s, for their breadth, depth, and quality. They may not have my favorite examples of individual styles but, overall, if I had to live with the beers from one brewery for the rest of my life, they would probably be it. Three Floyd’s is awesome, too, but they’re a bit lacking in the middle-of-the-road beer department.

I was under the impression that your favorite brewery was the kind that makes beer.

In the twin cities I like the stuff I’ve been trying from Surly Brewing. Bitter Brewer is my favorite.
When in Wisconsin I like to find various beers from New Glarus Brewing.

See the first three sentences of my OP.

Last year I found out serendipitously that I live within blocks of Ballast Point, one of San Diego’s best breweries. I now stop by every few weeks to fill my growler with their Big Eye IPA or Sculpin.

I’ve heard a lot of praise for Pliny the Elder, brewed somewhere in the Russian River area, but hard to find here. Has anyone tried it?

I’ve like everything I’ve tried from Troegs Brewery. And now I’m thirsty.

My favorite brewery was the Carolina Brewery in Holly Springs, NC. They had a decent IPA. Best of all - they gave tours and free samples every Saturday afternoon.

I live a mile from the brewpub, and about 500 feet from the production facility.

It’s the gold standard for a hop head like myself, but honestly, all their beers are slammin’.

RRBC is definitely my favorite brewery, but my latest crush is Ninkasi in Eugene. I visited the brewery over the summer and was very impressed by everything they are doing.

Southern Tier.

That’s what I came in to say. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite (that changes minute to minute) but I went to the trouble of getting some shipped in from a store in St Louis (the brewery is in western NY state). Pumking is to die for, but everything else I’ve had has been great. Only problem is that they ship to OR but not CA. Bastards.

It is a limited production, my favorite local bar gets a barrel a month and doesn’t even advertise it, knowing it would be gone in a couple of hours.

My favorite brewery? I live in Portland, Oregon-ask me again in about 35 years when I’ve had a chance to get through most of them.

Yeah, that is great stuff, and I liked visiting them last year too. That is one great thing about the West Coast: it seems every small town has at least one brewery.

I didn’t care for Brother T. I mean, it wasn’t bad, but I’ve had better Abbey’s. But it did pack a wallop. I wasn’t expecting it to be 9+ABV and I ended up falling asleep on my couch for two hours. I know a lot of people don’t like to hear this, but so far, my favorite abbey ale has been Full Moon, which is the winter seasonal from Blue Moon (Coors).

Also, if you like Old Rasputin (which I haven’t tried), keep you’re eyes open for Ted Fidy, it’s hard to find, seasonal and very expensive. I think I used to sell if for something like $11 or $12 for a 4 pack, but it pours like tar and it’s very very good, probably one of the best stouts I’ve had.
Oskar Blues sells a few other high end beers in cans. I haven’t tried them, but I hear they’re also very very good. I’ve brought them to parties and never heard a single complaint.
