If you hate Chrome, OK, but I like it. Got a new laptop that simply will not load Chrome. How is this even possible? I have downloaded it like 8 times, but it won’t open. The new laptop says “Hey!! You don’t need another browser, Edge does everything you need.” Am I never to have dear old Chrome again? Really ticked off!
That’s just a begging plea from Edge. You can just click through to download it, and install it. It’ll be in your downloads folder.
It’s also possible you ahve the S-Mode edition of Windows, which only lets you install things from the Microsoft Store. If you want to get out of S-Mode, you could look at these instructions:
If you don’t see the “Switch out of S mode” at the appropriate time, you’re not in S mode, and so don’t worry about that.
If you were in S mode, then I would check how much memory you have. Some S-mode computers only have 4GB of Memory. I would recommend you at least try to upgrade to 8GB if so. Heck, I’d recommend that even if you stay in S mode.
All I see in my downloads folder is Chrome setup, which, when I run it, does nothing.
Have you tried rebooting or at least going into taskmanager and killing anything that appears to be related to Chrome?
If you just bought this thing new it’s not your problem to solve, IMO. Take it back and get them to fix it, or replace it.
Are you an admin on the laptop? In general Windows won’t let you install software unless you are on the admin account. Although if you’re not an admin, when you try to run the installer it will being up a login dialog for the admin credentials, not just “nothing happens”. So I don’t know.
Have you tried completely shutting down and restarting the laptop then trying to install Chrome again?
In Search at the bottom of the screen or wherever, type “System”. The System summary should start out with OS Name. What does it say? [Mine says Microsoft Windows 11 Pro]
