Remember way back when I was asking about what system to get? Well, I got me an XBox, and I am not looking back.
First game bought for it?
Halo.
Now, I’ve always thought console systems were fun, but never ever considered them gaming machines. Not by any stretch of the imagination. It’s easy to move a paddle back and fourth with a control pad, or to play a TB-RPG, but a serious FPS? Never. The controllers are too clumsy…
…boy was I wrong…
I rented Unreal Championship for my son and I to play. I figured it would be fun to go head to head with my son, but wasn’t expecting much out of the gameplay due to my being used to the good-old “WASD” and mouse. I grumbled a bit to myself as I just couldn’t get the control I was used to having with UT or UT2003. I slowly got used to it (I only beat my son by one frag in our first game! And he’s 11!!!) but wasn’t quite hooked on this thing yet…
Enter Halo.
Gawd Damn! I spent so much time playing this damned game yesterday, it goes beyond being funny!
[ul][li]9:30 AM - I wake up in the morning, [/li][li]10:30 AM - Trinn comes home with Halo.[/li][li]11:30 PM – I turn of Halo to play Monopoly with Trinn.[/ul][/li] Allowing for pee breaks…
Needless to say that in that time span, I believe I have a very good handle on these controllers! (I’m a bit of a sniper so I had to learn the fine motions rather quickly.)
Gawd, do I love this system, but what’s next? Spec Ops? We shall see…
I purchased Halo, Splinter Cell, and Tiger Woods 2K3 with my XBox, and I actually find myself playing TW the most. I replay Halo on “Heroic” every once in a while, and I got tired of the last level in Splinter Cell (bodies keep being discovered, so every time I play the load game I have to go back and hide bodies in the beginning of the level).
I liked Halo but I wasn’t sure what was so hot about it…maybe it was the sound?
If I used a generic controller & played a game without knowing what console it was on, I don’t think I could tell a ps2 from an xbox (yes, I have both).
Im enjoying GTA VC cause you can spawn a nifty Rhino (tank) & blow things up & they can’t touch you. I made almost a million dollars with it in 45 minutes.
Wait until you get the multiplayer games going on a LAN. 4 on 4 capture the flag in Blood Gulch with 7 other friends? mmm…digital crack… Also, like crack, it can make 8-10 hours go by in what seems like 20 minutes.
I hear that, mouthbreather, but some day you’ve got to try four XBoxes with 4 people each on them… 8 vs 8 is INCREDIBLE… especially when the red and blue teams are actually in seperate rooms so none of that silly cheating by looking at the screen.
eris, we have actually tried exactly that and I like it less. I don’t like only having 1/4 of a TV screen…anything less that 1/2 and it begins to suck - everyone I play with pretty much agreed.
I just wish there wasn’t a limit of how many Xboxes you could link via LAN. 8 on 8 with everyone having their own TV screen?
drool…
