My $%#& PalmVx won't sync

I already checked palm.com and I can’t find my manual. Anyhoo, it connects to my PC and begins to sync and then stops. the log just indicates that all syncs failed (to-do, calender, phone book, etc) w/out revealing why.

any suggestions?

Turned out mine was due to conflicting serial port addresses. Soon as I moved the mouse, or the slightest movement caused it to jiggle, it sent an interrupt to the port which caused the sync operation to fail. Later that same WEEK, I had the EXACT problem with the IR port on my computer at home. The IR port would screw up the serial port. I had to change some of the interrupt settings around and add a com port to boot.

Hope that helps.

No Dice, Billy, Thanks though

I had the same problem recently. It worked fine for a while, then all of a sudden every time I tried to HotSync it would fail. I think it was trying to do a Modem HotSync as it kept asking for a phone number. Anyway, I removed the Palm Desktop from my PC, reinstalled it, and now it works fine. You could try that. Also, in the HotSync application on your Palm, is Local and Direct Serial selected? And is Direct Serial’s Connection Method set to “Serial to PC”?

And make sure you don’t have any other applications running in the Taskbar or the System Tray that may want to claim the COM port as their own.

Assuming you are using a com port connection you may want to double check in the Windows system hardware applet that no other installed hardware is sitting on the IRQ used by your com port. Modern PCI based hardware will often grab any IRQ that isn’t nailed down and many processes using COM ports aren’t real good at sharing the IRQ.

upgrade to desktop 4.0.1 or update your HotSync manager.

then try right-clicking the icon is the sys tray…go to custom… and set system to handheld overwrites desktop. see if that helps.

also, go to the install apps conduit and remove any apps set for installation at the next hotsync.

if this still doesn’t help, go to your Palm\username\Backup directory and move all files from there and make the directory empty. then try hotsync’ing again.

make sure you backup your desktop data before trying all this.

again, it is difficult to diagnose your problem with the limited data that you have presented, but these above steps fix most such problems. Also, please indicate whether you are using serial port or USB to connect.
