They are truly vacuumed together. I don’t even know if you can see it in this picture. The top is the pie tin, the shiny one. The bottom is the baking tin, the duller one. We have tried hot water and prying but not sure - maybe you all have some cool ideas.
Edit I thought i could attach a pic but apparently not? But still, the problem remains.
Put both in the oven, hopefully, the expanding air will push them apart. If it doesn’t, take it out and pour cold water on the top pan. The difference in size between the hot bottom pan and the cold top pan should pry them apart.
Ah, Physics! Well, I have had luck with spraying Pam around the edge of such nuisances. It has worked, but maybe I was just lucky. Little vexations like this are very trying to the spirit.
Ok I will play with both ideas.
Shalmanese offers the less messy idea. It sounds more likely to be successful, too.
But the spirit is strengthened by solving them.
I’d grab a couple of pairs of pliers. It’ll mark them up so if that’s a deal breaker, just means you and I use a different style of problem solving.
And then you can soothe your vexations by baking a luscious pie or cake!
You could also try soaking them in water and then freezing the pair. If any water that gets in between them will it expand when frozen and pry them apart. But the oven idea should do the trip.
You need a link to a picture online. Or in your case, upload to your favorite photo hosting site like imgur.com and get the link from there.
Any way to squirt soapy water in between them (dish soap mixed with water)?
Or food grade mineral oil (often sold as a laxative at drug stores or oil used to season cutting boards)?
Or even something like vegetable oil?
Maybe try putting them in the dishwasher, then when super hot pour cold water in the top one like mentioned upthread. Maybe the steamy water will help if the dry oven doesn’t.
I’ll chime in with heat the outer shell, cool the inner too. I would place them in warm water, not warmer than your hands can stand it and fill the inner pan with ice water, wait five minutes and try pulling them apart
Are these metal? Glass? Ceramic? Some of these temperature tricks run the risk of shattering ceramics, and maybe some glass. There’s also a risk of warping metal.
Good news! I got it apart. Soaked it, used soap, and a thin knife blade very gently applied, and there it was!
Well, now you must stick them together again and try the physics solutions offered up-thread—for the sake of science!
Well, that’s that. Congrats!
In a similar situation my father solved it by carefully drilling a very small hole in the pie tin. Once air got in to equalize the pressure, they pried apart easily.
Of course the pie pan then had a tiny hole in the bottom, but if you only bake pies that have bottom crusts, that doesn’t really cause a problem.
This makes me curious. Would you ever call glass or ceramic pie pan a “baking tin”? For me, a “baking tin” is always going to be metal, although not necessarily tin.
Throw them in the washing machine on spin cycle. 500 Gs should do it.
That’s gonna make one hell of a racket until they come apart & then it’ll get even worse as there’s two tins rattling around in there. Still won’t be able to bake anything due to needing to lie down due to splitting headache. Some black powder & a match won’t make a racket for nearly as long.
