My Pneumionia just won't go away

I thought I had it beaten, after a week on antibiotics & injection.
But, according to the X-Rays, it’s still there.
I feel a million years old.
New antibiotics & now oral steroids.
I feel like shit.

Bosda I’ve had pneumonia but not to that extent. That is very rough!

We hope you get better soon. Standard antibiotics don’t work on everyone. Let’s hope they now have you on one that does the trick. Pneumonia is no fun, and it should to be taken seriously by your medical providers.

The x-ray changes will last longer than the active pneumonia infection/inflammation does, though. So still seeing a pneumonia on x-ray doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not getting better on treatment. But yeah, pneumonia is quite debilitating, even in the best case scenarios.

I’ve had pneumonia five times in my life. Best wishes for a now-rapid recovery.

As dolphinboy said, another antibiotic might do the trick. Best wishes for a speedy knock-out of the pneumonia!

Feel better.

Can you get some chicken soup?
Lots of rest.
Lots of hydration.

Good vibes.

(Oh, take your oral meds exactly the same time, on time everyday. It really does help to keep a consistent amount of antibiotics in your body)

Going for protein in the diet.
Also, cream of chicken soup is lovely.

Feel better soon! Pneumonia is so draining.

At what point does it become oldmonia?

When it kills you. There’s a reason some still call it ‘the old man’s friend’.

Had pneumionia a few years ago. Missed a little over a week of work and had
a long recovery period. I felt tired all the time for a couple months after that.
Hope you get better ASAP.

One week is not nearly long enough. You need to be in bed, resting, for at least another two weeks. And don’t make the mistake I did, of jumping back into full time work too soon. I ended up with recurrent pneumonia for over a year, ending with a pleurisy infection that was unbelievably painful.

Rest, take the antibiotics, and ask for aggressive treatment. Take vitamins and eat, even though you don’t feel like it. If it goes on more than three weeks, start questioning the air quality in your home. Looking back, I suspect that had a lot to do with my difficulty in getting over it.

I was hospitalized with Pneumonia in 2023. My pulmonologist ordered a vibrating/shaker vest. The respiratory therapist put it on me three times a day. 20 min treatments.

Helps bring up fluid from the lungs. I used a similar vest at home for three months. It was a rental from a medical supply.

This was the vest that I rented with a doctors prescription.

Getting my lungs cleared helps prevent a recurrence of pneumonia.

I have a massaging heating pad.
Hmm.

The respiratory therapist in the hospital had me using a flutter exerciser 3 or 4 times an hour. You blow into it and there’s an odd flutter vibration in your throat. It vibrates more as you blow harder. I didn’t think it was very effective.

The Vest is much more effective. But the hospital only had 4 or 5 available for patients.

Criminy, my sympathy and advice to heed @TruCelt. I too have had a pleurisy infection and can confirm that they are very painful and debilitating.

Are those the same ones used by people with cystic fibrosis?

There might also be some viral things going on, and antibiotics don’t touch that.

Maybe?

I only had pneumonia. I was having trouble breathing and was rushed to the ER. I started getting albuterol inhalation treatments and that helped me breath easier. It opens up the airway. I was in the hospital on antibiotics for over a week and had daily treatments from respiratory therapy.

I agree it takes awhile to recover. It’s important to get rest and not over exert.

Yes, they are.

Sez the nurse who used to have to beat on people’s chests with her hands every four hours.
