My screen name on the SDMB or "how cool will I be with THIS rockin' screen name!?"

Named after an ale.

Here is my story.

Welcome!

It was 2:00am on a Sunday, which in Indiana means the bars were closed. Miller and I were prowling the supermarket for something to scarf for lunch before going back to work. Miller said, from the next aisle, “Hey, Nott, here’s some shrimp. You like shrimp?”

As we were checking out, a pimply stockboy walked up. “Are you really Nott?”

“I am Nott. Really.”

“Well, my history teacher said I should ask you what my country can do for me.”

And the rest is…history.

Awesome, Asknott! Anyone who disses teenagers oughtta read this!

Daniel

Well, I named myself after one of the greatest and most prolifric lovers that ever lived.

NurseCarmen,

What’s swimming thing with big schlong in Latin?

Just… curious…

Brian

Verb-noun combinations. I am neither rabid, not a small rodent-like creature.

Oh, and I like to use underscores ( _ )

Grade 10 French class, my class was doing a unit on ads and slogans. My teacher was going around the room asking everyone to think of some familiar advertisements, the kid in front (or behind, I forget by now) of me, who was usually shy and quiet said “Make 7 up yours” My teacher had this appalled look on her face and said in a truly shocked tone “Pardonez-moi?!?!” and the poor kid turned red and said “Make 7 up yours” with an odd look on his face and then she started chuckling and said “Oh. I thought you said 7 up yours. I didn’t hear the ‘Make’”. The class burst into fits of laughter and the kid slunk in his seat so low you could only see the top of his head.

So, that’s where my name comes from, and I would like to point out that I’m female… I’ve had posters on this board mistake me for a male because my name is so rude and offensive  .

I needed a name for some other site - I’d just been watching a doc on Captain Beefheart (Apparently Matt Groening’s a big fan BTW) and I’d recently got hold of various Beefie recordings, so he was on my mind. I tried to log-on as “Fast and Bulbous” but there where something like 86 Fasts-and-Bulbii already signed up (Sheesh… you try to be obscure…) so I went with Capt B. Phart and used it here too.

Now I realise this may have been an error, there are a positive plethora of Captains 'round these parts - so I may change soonish.

I was trying to think of a spam trap email addy years ago while listening to a record by The Gories. The song “Nitroglycerine” came on, and I said to myself, “This’ll do”, and I’ve used it ever since.

I kind of regret my username now. As you can see, I’ve been using it for a few years now (LONGER THAN THE TELEVISION SHOW ALIAS, thankyouverymuch). When I decided on it, I thought it was kind of funny like “my alias is Alias” ha ha ha. No such luck. Since they made a TV show called Alias, everyone just thinks I’m a fan. Truthfully, I’ve never even seen it.

I used to be Kuroko, but I realized that didn’t really describe me, thus leading me to change my name to reflect my love for toast. (also I was eating breakfast at the time, but that doesn’t sound as cool)

This name isn’t exactly cool, but it has given me the mysterious power of making people hungry.

Plus your name provided some great entertainment the time Giraffe tried to flirt with you (I didn’t actually post in that thread, but mainly because I was laughing so hard anything I typed would have wound up looking like a cat had walked across my keyboard).

As for me, I started off as JulKatBo, but decided it was boring and I wasn’t entirely comfortable with using the beginnings of my first, middle and last names as a user name. I settled on Ms Macphisto because I’m a big U2 fan and Macphisto is my favourite of Bono’s alteregos, then I stuck a Ms at the front 'cause I’m a girl.

GREAT posts everyone - thanks for playing! Keep’em comin!

Thanks for the welcomes Odd-Socks, Left Hand of Dorkness and Delores Reborn.

DR - I must say…your link provided great humor! All those names people suggested for you to change your screen name…HILARIOUS! I LOL’d so much my cat left the room…I think I scared him! heh heh

 fun, fun

I like the pretty colors.

My name used to be slythe. I was a quarter of the way through a bottle of Tullimore Dew one night when I decided that I wanted a new name. I started a “Re-name Moderator” thread here in IMHO that same night, and came this close to being named Chicken Of Bristol.

Alereon was to be the name of the AMD K7 processor, which was renamed Athlon before release. I guess they realized that no one could spell or pronounce Alereon. So yeah, I’m hopelessly geeky:)

Mine is a combination of Guinevere and Anastasia.

When I first went online in 1996, I alway used Lady Guinevere, then I changed it to Jedi Guinevere.

However, after seeing the animated movie Anastasia, I became obsessed with the Romanovs. I joined a mailing list dedicated to the movie and a lot of people for a laugh used to put “astasia” after their names (Jenastasia, Ginastasia, Lisastaia)

I started using “Guinastasia”, and I liked the sound of it. I was still going as Jedi Guin for a while, but then when I joined a different board, I decided to drop the Jedi and just used Guinastasia.

And the rest is history.

(It’s pronounced “Gwen-a-STAY-zha”)

Well, uh, ever heard of X-Men?
