My skin burns with the rage of a 1000 suns

It’s my own damned fault, too.

On Saturday, lno and I took our aussies to a local ASCA show (ASCA is our parent breed club and they run conformation shows, obedience, herding and agility trials). It was an outdoor show, at a venue that I really really like.

It was a GORGEOUS day, hot but with a really strong breeze. Just enough to trick you into believing it wasn’t all that hot or sunny. HA! Now - I’m a natural redhead. I don’t tan. The only “tan” I get in the summer are my freckles spreading, I swear. Knowing this, I wore sunscreen. All should be well, yeah?

NO. See, the catch is that the medication I am currently on for my back INCREASES PHOTO-SENSITIVITY.

Next time, I am bloody well highlighting this fact on the pill bottles and all the documentation the pharmacist bloody well gives me. GAH! The burn is bad enough, but today, the itch has set in. I am going OUT OF MY MIND. I have tried sooth-a-caine, straight up aloe, calamine lotion… and I’m out of oatmeal. Oh, and benadryl, too. In a few days, the blistters are gonna blooooow and it will be lovely. My skin is already nice and rubbery and bumpy from the forming blisters.

JESUSMOTHERFUCKINGCORNDOGSUPTHEPOOPERTHISITCHES.

SAVE ME FROM MYSELF.

(On the upside, my little girl went Winners Bitch and now sits pretty on top of all her points, still lacking majors, but currently the top winning altered non-CH bitch in the midwest) (Oh, and since I’m ranting, said little bitch went out to play frisbee with lno yesterday and came home with two blown front pads, one which ended up needing to be trimmed up. Now she walks veeery gingerly. Damned dog. Self-inflicted wound for her, too!)

This may seem like an obvious question, but… Have you seen a doctor? Perhaps there’s some prescription drug that can help with the pain and itching better then the OTC stuff.

And congrats on the win, although I’m a bit confused–it sounds like it was in conformation, but she’s altered?

Yep, Metacom.

ASCA offers Altered Conformation as a Regular Conformation program now. This is a blessing for those of us who are more than happy to show (according to our contract with the breeder, for example) but not able to deal with heats (she works in AAT).

It has also allowed breeders to place show puppies in “pet” or “working” homes, let them be altered, but still show off the quality of their breeding program.

Sorry to hear about your burn and your dogès pads.

If I hadn’t realised you were talking about dogs, this would sound very… odd.

Try Noxema for the burn.

Congrats on your bitch’s performance.

Try Banana Boat Sooth-a-cain. I loves me that stuff.

Sympathy on the burn. If you’re masochistic, try slathering on some of those ‘gelled alcohol’ waterless sanitizers: it will burn like HELL for maybe fifteen seconds, but that seems to turn off the itching sensation for at least an hour.

“Blown front pads”?? What does that mean?

Technically, your skin burns with the rage of only one sun.

Dr. Eleusis prescribes RUM.

have you tried soaking in a tub full of warm water with a box of oatmeal mixed in?

it’s a bit icky, but it does work.

Stop her from using the dog’s lidocaine!

Blown front pads refers to blistering on the dog’s pads from her running like a fool chasing a frisbee.

Oh. I thought it meant she needed a brake job.

Band name!

Ethilrist - she DOES need a brake job. In fact, it’s her braking that causes the problem.

Blowing pads basically means blistering that ruptures and pads that are raw - very common in working dogs who work stock all day or aussies who take their frisbee fetching VERY seriously…

I had a second really bad “attack” of the itch. It was bad enough to make me want to cry and rip my skin off. I have NEVER had a burn like this before. Wow. Gnn.

Gingy is right - I did steal my dog’s 2% lidocaine cream, but even that didn’t help. lno followed the RUM suggestion above and gave me a cup of white hot chocolate with 100 proof peppermint schnapps in it. Hopefully that will knock me out and I don’t feel the itch anymore.

Yay! Winners bitch!

That’s awesome. Sorry you got the sunburn to go with it.

Knowing lno, he’s probably giving himself a treatment too.

I’m in it with you. I went to Ren Fest yesterday, and burnt a bit (despite sunscreen), and the local Six Flags today (the waterpark) and burnt some more (despite two applications of SPF 45 sunscreen today) I told my friends that being around me is like having practice for having an albino friend. I didn’t get burnt TOO bad, I’ll get better in two days or so, but it’s the principle- I shouldn’t have burnt at all!

Was Aloe Ice from Aloe Up. It’s 100% aloe gel spiked with Lidocaine. Fantastic stuff, although it sounds like you’re beyond the help of anything over-the-counter. If you have blisters  you might want to go see a doctor or dermatologist or some other medical professional.

I would give you a sympathy hug, but it sounds as I might end up wearing a layer of your skin, so I won’t.

Thanks, Slaphead…

The good news is that the itch has died down - last night, I thought I was going to go OUT OF MY MIND. Nothing was taking it away at all, and I was just about ready to rip off my skin. It’s still here, but it’s better than it was.

Now, I’m molting. What’s really disturbing is that there’s a second layer of blisters coming in under the already shed skin. Ick.
