This is what I’m talking about. The epic story of Indian history and the great war.
The damn thing is 94 episodes, and 16 disks. I hadn’t found it cheaper than $200 anywhere, and those sales just started - before it was $300 +. I felt guilty about spending that much money on myself.
But he found it for just over $100! And he got it last night, and I’ve been watching it. I’m so happy. I love this serial.
I’ve seen many of the Mahabharat episodes when they were first aired. I don’t understand Hindi, but I knew what was going on since I read it (an English translation). I found them enjoyable, as long as you don’t mind your favorite mythological heroes being played by skinny and/or effeminate-looking men. It’s funny, because when you read the books you imagine these characters to be super-musculur. I mean, these guys regularly uprooted huge trees and fought with them. And then you see the actor, and you can’t help but laugh. But once you get over that, it’s pretty good.
Let me know once you start on the Ramayana. My uncle has a supporting role in that series.
The secret, apparently, is living with my SO, because he never divulges his secrets. He can always find the most obscure things, and never tells how he did it.
Can you see if he could find a copy of the movie Popal Vuh on DVD? It is the Mayan creation myth and there is an animated movie about it. I’ve seen it available through intra-library loans on film. I would love a copy of this on DVD and I can’t find one anywhere.
I think I used to watch that as a child, IIRC it was on Channel 4 on Sunday mornings. Weird British programme scheduling, from the days before cable and satellite.
I mostly remember fights staged with about 5 people, that were obviously meant to be epic battles.
Unless you’re less than 15, this isn’t the same one. This was made & produced in the 1990’s. And has lots and lots of extras.
It’s won lots of awards, as a matter of fact. The casting is excellent, the special defects are just that, but the costumes are stunning and so is the acting.
