Hey got the call last Friday that they are looking for a temporary replacement for the guitarist of “Dralion”. They said it was between Mr.dreamer and one other guy but they called this morning and said they’ve decided to fly Mr.dreamer up to Seattle this Thursday and audition him on the spot. He gets to watch the show Thursday night, stay at the Hotel that the Cirque stays at, and then audition Friday morning!
This is a dream come true for Mr.dreamer! He sent his resume and music to the Cirque du Soleil Headquarters in Montreal over two years ago!! Although it’s only a temporary position, it’s still the Cirque du Soleil!! And having that on his resume will only lead to more opportunities for him and of course the opportunity to maybe find a permanent position with them.
I am SO Happy for him and if you feel like praying or sending good thoughts his way I would definitely appreciate it, as would he.
As soon as I know the outcome of the audition I will post it. If he gets the job he will be playing with them in Sacramento for at the minimum 3 weeks. I will plan on going up there a few times for sure so if anyone else lives in that area, let me know!!
go Mr.dreamer go!!
That is so cool! I love CIRQUE DU SOLEIL ! Does he get to be on stage? Does he get to wear one of those cool costumes? Does he get to keep the cool costume? Will you get to play with those long ropes that you hang from and fly around? Will you get to hang around with the contortionists? TOO COOl!
The Cirque has been a part of my life the past month or so. It is currently located in the old employees parking lot at the Boeing Renton plant. Big blue and yellow tents too. Their parking gastapo gets upset because we have to knock over their orange cones getting out of the parking lot at quitting time.
Does Mr. Dreamer do circus tricks while playing guitar, i.e., unicycle, dangling from his knees, etc? Or does he just accompany the performers with his music?
Does he want to perform with a circus permanently, or is he looking for a straight band and/or recording contract?
What is his 9-5 job that will give him 3 weeks to run away with the circus?
There is a live band that plays with every show and no, none of them do any tricks :).
If the Cirque du Soleil offered him a permanant position with them he would say YES in a second. For a musician and a performer, you can’t get much better than Cirque.
He is also in a band with yours truly :). We have a Contemporary Jazz, Samba, Blues and Pop Band and we are working towards that becoming our main profession. If you are interested here is the link to our bands website
He’s got 3 weeks vacation time. The job might last longer and if so he will have to take some personal time so hopefully his company will understand. He’s been there 14 years so hopefully they will cut him some slack.
Thank You Echo Kitty, I really appreciate that :).
Wow! Great song list! My dad and brother are both jazz musicians (my brother is hoping to start getting some work soon). It’s hard to get started, and when you find something semi-stable, you gotta grab it! I also have a friend that has made a lucrative career doing commercials. Stuff you hear every day. Good luck with the full time endeavor!
I always wanted to know how to get into doing singing for commercials. I know I’ve got a good enough voice, I just don’t know the “right” people. Actually I don’t know any people.
