My Son and I Had Our First Real Baseball Catch Yesterday

Totally mundane (except to me,) but my oldest boy is 6 and although we’ve played T-ball and other sports for a long time, we finally had a catch with real baseball gloves and a hard ball. A milestone I’ve been waiting for since I learned my wife was pregnant the first time. It wasn’t all that much, maybe 20 minutes of me tossing it to him underhand while he figured out the glove, but he seemed to enjoy it as much as I did (and he has a pretty good throwing arm!) He’s already asked if we can do it again tonight. (They don’t make a smiley with a grin big enough…)

Heh no need to downplay it at all, that’s totally awesome and is a real genuine milestone. I have a daughter who is pretty rough and tumble, so maybe I’ll do that with her one day.

Cool! Good for both of you! I’m still waiting for that particular milestone myself.

My 5-year-old just started T-ball this season, and at his last game he hit the ball,—without a T—on the first pitch. I was so proud and so happy that I thought I was 'gonna get all weepy.

Cool for you.

My son plays PONY and is in Bronco level, which I think is analogous to Little League level where they have the WS. I figure I have a year or two left before he can seriously hurt me throwing the ball.

Remember to always make time for him when he wants to throw the ball with you, or else you’ll be haunted by the ghosts of Harry Chapin and John Kinsella.

I still treasure my memories of playing catch with my Dad. Almost 40 now myself, and I don’t think it’s in the cards for me to do the same with one of my own.

Congratulations.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the sentiments. It’s nice to share a moment sometimes.

It’s really cool to think back to when the Rykid and I had our first game of catch or threw the football.

sigh

These days it’s hard to pry the big ol’ 18-year-old slacker away from video games.

Geez.

Time flies at light speed.
