Well, as you know, I’ve not been around much in recent years, I’ve lost track of many of the players. Not you, though! Howdy!
Oh, Kimmy, Kimmy, Kimmy. Don’t you ever change. I know it’s hard for you to wrap your little brain around this, but some of us prefer not to embrace one partisan faction or another. You accuse me of being nothing more than a partisan hack when I have been telling you for years now that I don’t have a single partisan axe to grind. I happen to be the one thing that puzzles you most, a thinking Democrat. Since such an animal is not within your sphere of experience, you constantly lash out at me. A Democrat who thinks? A Democrat who thinks conservatively? Impossible! You can’t conceive of a Democrat who doesn’t gleefully quaff the Kool Aid, so you blindly attack. I know common sense is not something you hold dear, but really, it’s not your fault. You make your living sucking off of working people’s sweat, crunching meaningless numbers as a simply a small, useless cog in the machine. It must gall you intolerably to be confronted with someone who expects people to be responsible for themselves, and lacking a frame of reference to understand that you attack! Dear, sweet, Kimmy. You’re so pathetic that you can’t do anything buy try to ascribe partisan motivations to anyone who doesn’t agree with your socialist agenda. I can’t imagine living your life, I would be so consumed with self hatred and shame for the pitiful thing I’d become that I would probably kill myself. I know you don’t have the strength of character or the sense of honor to do something like that, so here you exist, smack dab in the middle of a sea of inadequacy. You just keep on attacking your betters boy, it’ll keep you going. Nothing else in your pathetic life will.
So since I didn’t get to catch Bill O’Reilly, WHAT HAPPENED?
Why, [Weirddave], thanks for proving my point!
Most kind of you.
Good thing you deplore this sort of debate! You truly have mastered the art of high sarcasm.
And greetings and salutations back atcha - it’s great to see you here again!
Just to make it perfectly clear, I assume that our friend [Weirddave] understands that partisan disagreement is natural, and partisan debate is useful and necessary. The only way to resolve the difference between Democrats that want universal health care, and Republicans that want to give increased tax deductions so people can pay for health insurance themselves, is to debate the issue and see who can convince most Americans. Ditto staying in Iraq until we stabilize the country, even if that takes 5-10 years, versus getting our troops out in the next year or two, even if it leaves the country in chaos. Disagreement happens, usually along partisan lines, and while sometimes one can split the difference, the debate is often between fundamentally different directions.
What I assume [Weirddave] has a problem with, as do I, is the gratuitous tarring of people we disagree with over partisan issues, just because we disagree with them. His post @42 is clearly facetious, and obviously intended to be an example of the sort of thing he wishes wouldn’t happen in partisan debate.
Wow. I use your first name on the boards and you feel this warrens publishing my entire name online? Sorry to disapoint you Kim, but unlike you, I’ve never made a secret of who I am. I have noting to hide (perhaps it comes from not spending my time when people are paying me to work posting on The Straight Dope), and anyone who wants my name simply had to ask, but that’s dirty pool old man. In addition, WRT the “substance” of your post, my disagreements with you are strictly personal. If, as you say,
then I would have no problem with that. The problem is that you, my dear Kimmy, don’t give a rats ass for facts. You don’t want to debate. All you want is to push your agenda on people with or without their consent. You don’t find a consensus, you want to impose a fait accompli. You lie easier then you breathe, Kim ***** (I really thought about putting your name out there Kim, I really did, but that would make me no better than you. Unfortunately, gosh darn it, I am worlds better then you can even conceive of being, so my innate sense of right and wrong prohibits me. Damnit.)
The problem is, once you step over the lines, who’s to say where the new line is, or whether there even is one?
I thought it was settled some time ago, in response to your tossing my first name around here rather freely when you’re losing an argument with me, that I did not want my name (first or last) used on this board. And even if we hadn’t settled that, it should be assumed, as standard online good behavior, that you don’t ID people’s RL names to a greater extent than they do without their permission.
And while I hate to inform anyone of the obvious, there are times when it’s necessary: harassing telephone calls (or other communications) are not at all the thing, and I expect no more such communications from you.
The path of wisdom for both of you right now (and both of whom I consider personal friends, regardless of your mutual vendetta) is that both of you back away from the thread and let it go. Come back some other time when emotions are calmer.
Or, in the vernacular:
Will the two of you just shut the flying fuck up for a minute?
seconded.
To clarify, I’m referring to off-board, non-Dopefest communications.
Who needs Bill O’Reilly? We’ve got the two (or three) of you right here.
Frankly, I don’t give a damn what your RL names are. I’d like to know how StepMama handled herself on TV. IOW, get a room, folks or take it elsewhere, please.
Actually there have been entire books written by legal scholars on why Bush should be impeached for just that reason. The Constitution prescribes a separation of powers that it says is necessary to maintain our democracy. The effect of Bush’s signing statements is to make Bush in effect the head of the judicial branch that is passing judgment on the Constitutionality of legislation. It also puts him above the legislative branch when he states what the legislation means and how he will enforce it or not enforce it based on his own judgment. If Congress passes legislation and the president refuses to enforce it that has the same efect as making him king, putting him in charge of all three bodies of government. It is unacceptable and definitely a reason to impeach him. If Bush wants to veto a bill, then let him and then Congress can either override the veto or not, that is the way things are done. Passing the legislation but refusing to enforce it is not. Interpreting legislation is also not his function.
Stoid, since everyone else is having their own arguments, what happened with your stepmom & Bill O’R?
RTFirefly, do not post other users’ full names on the board. This is a warning. Do not do this again.
Weirddave, if you wish to refer to someone by their first name and not their username, email or personal message is the appropriate venue.
Acknowledged. It won’t happen again.
ETA:
Neeever mind!
:o
She (allegedly) went on Bill O’Reilly’s show. Something about prostitution (I believe Stoid’s step mother has some connection with this area).
Stoid came on to try to dig something up to use to disrupt the program. Apparently her stepmother is a troll as well.
Regards,
Shodan
I assume you have removed all the mirrors in your own house so you won’t have a problem?
I’ve never been on O’Reilly.

Shodan
