My teeth feel cleaner when I use an electric toothbrush. Is this anything?

Is the fact that my teeth feel as smooth as a baby’s backside after I’ve used a motorized tooth cleaning contraption proof that it is indeed a superior toothbrush?

Well, my dentist is the head of the UW dental school and he recomends the Sonicare. Since I’ve been using one, my “pockets” have improved and my every 6 month cleanings are getting shorter.

The advantage to electric toothbrushes is that they do a better job of massaging the gums and cleaning the areas between teeth. That’s where dental problems arise. The polish of the tooth itself is mostly cosmetic, but also might tempt you to continue using it for the real benefits.

Obviously you don’t mean you’ve got more spending money. Can you clarify “pockets”?

“Pockets” are spaces between the gum tissue and tooth, where bacteria and other mouth-nasties can accumulate and cause your gums to recede, get infected, etc. When you get your teeth cleaned and they start by probing between the teeth and gums with a semi-sharp instrument, they’re checking for pockets.

Gracias!

Anecdotal, but I’m noticed a big difference in changing to electric too. I noticed an additional increase in cleanliness from also using a waterpik to clean my gums and between my teeth.
