In a recent post in GQ a moderator told me to stop with the colors. What’s the big deal? It’s not like I’m trolling, flaming or being offensive.
Heck, if it is so annoying take some solace that Q.E.D. doesn’t start posting in colors.
I heard that.
Like I said in an earlier thread, posting in colors doesn’t bother me any. It doesn’t eat up any more bandwith than the inclusion of the [color] tags, so I dunno what the big stink is all about, personally.
This might have been better posted in the Pit, by the way.
I wanted to be civil since it’s such a tempest in a teapot.
Plus I was only kidding by mentioning you!!! : ) : ) : )
I don’t know why they would tell you to stop?
Annoying maybe?
No, that’s annoying. Posting all in purple isn’t really so terrible, IMO. I can think of a hundred far worse colors she could have chosen. Yellow, anyone?
A : I had stated in that other thread that I was not speaking officially, so it was not in my capacity as a moderator that I was telling you that.
B : It’s annoying, as others have said both here and in a previous pit thread.
C : It also makes others feel the needs to either copy you or mock you by posting in various different colors as evidenced by samarm’s post in the previous thread and imthjckaz’s post here. This is doubly annoying since it makes the board doubly difficult to read.
D : Yes, it does make one think less of you as a poster if you feel you have to draw attention to your posts by the color of the font rather than the strength of your ideas.
E : I’m asking you to stop it, not telling you. However, if this gets too much more annoying, I suppose we could make some sort of official policy about it.
I would like to request that if this is made official policy, it is made extremely clear. Is anyone claiming that the posts are hard to read? If not, it seems like so much stylism, and nothing more. I guess I can’t see why people find it annoying, or assume that it’s an attention-grabbing technique.
Okay, you’re not speaking officially.
What makes it annoying? Is there something objective that someone can cite regarding the offensiveness of purple? I could use yellow or silver. Purple has a good contrast between the alternating light blue and white backgrounds.
Folks who feel a need to mock my choice in colors have the problem. I’m not telling them to post in rainbows or difficult colors. That’s their problem when they’re being antisocial.
I’m sorry that some can only see the color and not read my posts. I will not stop posting in purple.
Fight the power.
Okay, this is officially the most inane cause I’ve seen someone take up this week.
Also, I see the color of your posts before I see the words. Does that make me a fontist?
Hmmm, you’re on the right track, but not quite catchy or indignant enough. How about,
No? Maybe,
Or there’s always the-less-said-the-better route:
Stick it to the Man!
Light blue backgrounds? On every PC I ahve accessed SDMB from, non of the backgrounds are blue, just diff degrees of grey. (Yes, I have glorious 32bit colour) Am I missing something?
The sad part is that I previewed my post, and I STILL had typing errors.
IMHO. raisinbread, you are detracting from your posts by constantly choosing the purple colour. Now, it can be said that using different colours here and there, for emphasis, is a wonder to behold.
But line after line after line after line in purple is tiresome, and puts up a big, “Nah, don’t take this poster seriously” notice across the brain.
And this probably should head to the Pit, now.
Why do people feel the need to make this confrontational? raisinbread isn’t being like that. At least not in this thread.
Uh, Achernar, when raisinbread says in this thread:
(bolding mine)
that’s being at least a teensy-bit confrontational, don’t you think? Not that I think raisinbread fired the first shot, mind.
I agree it’s sad there has to be a big hoo-ha over which colour font someone uses on an MB. Might be better just to go back to pretending raisinbread is posting in black, huh?
Well, since you asked, IMHO, it makes you look pretentious, and I feel even more so when I see your petulant (you can’t make me stop) attitude about it.
Or maybe it just makes you look cutesy, I haven’t decided yet.
“that’s being at least a teensy-bit confrontational, don’t you think?” Yeah, I guess a little. Not enough to get upset over, I think. I don’t see the attitude that lorinada mentions. I suppose I should have said that the OP did not intend for this to get hostile, and there’s no reason for it to.
I don’t think it’s as unimportant as some people do, though.
Folks around here get upset about poor grammar, leet-speak, lack of capitalisation, and those who post in Spanish rather than English, Achernar. Differences stand out around here like sore thumbs.
I do agree that getting upset over something like this, with the world the way it is right now, is daft.
IMO, it makes you a gimmck poster.
Gimmick posters are annoying at best, infuriating at worst. YMMV.
