I have been posting on several message boards for a long time now, and my posts are ALWAYS purple. The only exceptions are those boards with a colored background which doesn’t allow certain colors to be read when posted. Other than that, it’s pretty much an ingrained habit to colorize my posts before clicking Submit.
I don’t remember your names, but for those who called me a “grapist”, please try to remember that I wasn’t here when you had that person on board, and I don’t even know who it is! From what I understand, this “grapist” would quote other people’s posts and turn those purple, and I’m not doing that! I’m simply following one of my own traditions. On other boards, if I were to post in any color other than purple, people would think I was sick or something! It’s my thing, a signature of sorts. Can’t a girl like purple???
Let me ask you this: Would you rather see me posting in yellow?
I like purple. I used to have purple hair. (No, really. I did.) And for what it’s worth, I never assumed you were the Grapist. I figured that you were just a big fan of purple.
I never thought you were that other poster (wasn’t around when s/he was but was caught up by links), but still, it seems sort of an unspoken rule on this board that everyone posts in the same color, black. Purple is a better color to post in than yellow or white, but it’s still not as readable as black on a white background. I think colored posts are a little distracting, myself, but since you’re obviously not a troll like the grapist I could tolerate the colored posts.
Oh yes, and welcome to the boards. ;j (I’ve been wanting to use that emoticon.)
Indeed it is although it becomes a quite vocal one if someone makes a habit out of posting in colored text too often. While I don’t remember any pittings of kniz, ouryL, or **Bosda **for their (somewhat random) tendencies to use different fonts, colors, and sizes, we had one poster about a year and a half ago (the aforementioned Raisinbread) that posted in nothing but purple much like the OP and there were pittings every other month or so.
It’s a very distracting posting style and while I cannot speak for anyone else, I know I usually skip over any post containing large segments of colorful text out of habit. I skim a lot and it’s jarring to have the rather innocuous black 10 pt arial interspersed with orange 8 pt comic sans or green 12 pt verdana; it interrupts any rhythm I may have had.
A quick search turned up this survey and the results cofirmed the popular opinion that black on white is the easiest to read. Spongemom, continue to post in purple f you wish but keep in mind that it is not as easy to read as black text.
