My workplace is a crime scene.

…And it’s really worse than it sounds.

Happy New Year.

More.

I really hope you were not at work when this happened! Were any of your friends hurt? Do you have any idea who the employee who “helped everyone” is, and will she get some kind of award for going above and beyond?

The second post says he killed himself in the headline, however I didn’t see it in the body of the story. Do you know if any of the people who were hurt when he drove the truck through your store have left the hospital?

For a guy this in your face with all his activity, seems the cops still were having a problem catching him. What’s up wit dat?

Glad the by standers were not killed. Trucks are very dangerous weapons…

Even more.

I’m at home with my wife (who also works there) and son. We don’t know who is hurt and how badly.

There were at least 20 police cars with their lights on in the parking lot when I left.

Looked very festive.

I’m fucking not okay right now.

Oh well…

Holy crap–what goes on.

What a hell of a thing to happen.

Of course you’re not okay, that’s some crazy shit! I’m guessing you’re pretty shaken up and nine kinds of pissed off, too. That would seem to be the logical human response and fuck anybody who says otherwise.

But more important, you got home, right? You’re wife’s okay and your son? That’s what matters right now. Keep reminding yourself of that. They are going to need you to be “okay” (or at least some semblance of it).

Try not to dwell any more than necessary on “what if”, at least as much as you can. There is no doubt that this is going to be central to your life for a while, so there will be time later for what might have been. Right now try to focus on each other.

The article in your last post indicated that the injuries to the people at the store were minor. Even if that turns out to be inaccurate, it will help them to not have to worry about the rest of you.

I hope you don’t take this as me being glib. I recognise that this is a big deal. If you think I’m talking out of my ass, well, you’re right I am. But I am sincerely thinking about you and your family and wishing you the best.
ETA You were online when I started this. I hope you see it tomorrow after getting some rest and everything is not so raw.

My wife went in at 7 this morning.
Plywood over the missing doors.
A lot of the checkout stands are gone.
It seems one of the biggest problems has been getting the POS gear up and running again. Hardware geeks rarely brainstorm the “Shithead drives a stolen SUV all over the network.” problem.
The store should be open by noon.
Yes, a few folks I work with and like were hurt.

Thank you.

OK, I’m guessing this is somewhere in Texas, although there is no mention whatsoever in any of the TV news accounts of what state this took place in. And, what is an H.E.B.?

Compelling story; shitty journalism.

Glad you and your friends are OK, Darth. It’s a random goddamn world out there.

I’m sorry you are going through this, Darth. It’s a scary, random world sometimes.

The story linked in the OP has a dateline of Weslaco, and the banner at the top of the page says that the reporting station is in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. Other than giving you a Google map link, I’m not sure what more information they could give to establish the location.

H.E.B. is a grocery store chain in Texas.

That’s messed up, Darth. I hope your co-workers weren’t hurt too badly.

Hey, at least you can be pretty damn sure it won’t happen to you again.

The good thing is the shoppers and employees made it out alive. It’s great that your family weren’t one of the injured.

So did this vehicle fits between the crash barriers or rip one out? If anybody finds a new article on this can you post it?

Man, Darth, I’m sorry this happened. I hope everyone recovers quickly.

From this second link, perhaps you can find at least some small sliver of amusement in the filename the newspaper chose to use to designate their picture of the perpetrator (who looks like a real winner of a human being).

Darth—sooo sorry!! I’m your neighbor here. I just knew this wasn’t going to end well. That poor girl! I guess we’re just lucky no more people were hurt. I do realize that there were so many victims–from the store employees to the shoppers and people on the roads. I found it a little ironic that the H.E.B. spokesperson made it a point to say that this incident was random and they were not singled out, and that it is safe to shop at H.E.B. (like we had any other options!). Sending positive thoughts to you and yours from the RGV.
