"Mystery!" Episode- "Forgotten" [Spoilers]

Anyone watch this three part episode of “Mystery!”? They’re still showing them over again, I think…but on to the spoilers.
I thought it was pretty good. It’s the second “Mystery!” episode I’ve seen (“Unsuitable Job for a Woman” being the first), and I liked it. I was guessing that it was the D.I. who did it- the one who was having the marriage trouble. It felt like it lost a little steam towards the end, but then that happens a lot in some mystery/suspense stories. Also it felt a little like it was spread thin- so many elements, and not really a huge amount of time on each part.

I really wasn’t expecting Katie’s killer to be Oliver- after all, you never hear anyone say, “The schoolteacher did it!” They did a good job of explaining it.

The ending was okay- not so much a huge shock as I thought. Ben/Peter telling Rachel/Carla about where the body was…I guess we’re not supposed to know if he did it just to give her some peace, or if he really did do it all this time and is finally telling her because he’s taken pity on her. The latter is a bit scarier- how can someone who seems so…“normal” be a killer? What do the teeming masses think?

I don’t know. I’m inclined to think he just made up a spot that she would recognize, just so she could, as you say, find some peace.

My wife and I have enjoyed many of the “Mystery!” episodes over the years. Since they were originally parts of many different British TV series, there are wide variations in style and tone, some of them much more serious than others.

“Forgotten” was very good. My wife suspected the schoolteacher at first, and then was led astray as the story developed. Zoggie, I suspected the D. I. too.

Did Ben/Peter commit the first murder? We’ll never know - which is the creepiest element of the story.

Ah, nice to see I wasn’t the only one.

I think it depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s fun to be morbid and think that he did it…for whatever foul reason. And other times, it’s just nicer to think of him as a concerned father.
