Mystery Mafia -- Game Thread

but dude most of those were when i was downing a half gallon of vodka and taking a vicodin. now that its a beer or two at most some of my asshole tendencies have gone away. shit i just passed year 10 with the current missus. the other two didn’t come close to making double digits. shit, the second barely lasted 2 and she was pregnant for nine months.

This I support. Context is everything. If you learn that you are a valuable role, then you might want to keep that to yourself (BOTH the power of your role AND the fact that you know it).

If you learn your role is sucky, then revealing that you have learned your role would give good info to the person that caused it without losing much.

Context baby!

I’m not following. What power was **Lightfoot **talking about?

Yes. It’s also been wrong once or twice.

I think peeker’s best tell is opportunism. I don’t know if his Giraffe vote qualifies; I’ve missed some posts.

There are no sucky roles, only sucky people.

Donuts.

Peeks, you have NEVER been mislynched for making TOO MUCH sense. That’d be like lynching Jaws for being too non-aquatic and non-murderous.

Wow, at this rate we’re going to knock the WoW thread off its pedestal sometime next week :).

General thoughts so far:
Tie break: I strongly dislike leaving the lynch up to random choice
Claiming: Initially I liked the idea of sharing messages received at Dawn but thinking about it more, it may just paint an even larger target on one’s back
Soft-clearing: Early in the game I tend to comment on the player I find most suspicious and only share thoughts on other players if they’re lynch candidates and I’m evaluating the merits of the cases against them. I didn’t find anything particularly telling about Lightfoot’s post
Fake breadcrumbs: Drain Bead has it right, scum will quickly identify the bluffers due to incorrect reads and will narrow down the options for the real Cop based on correct reads

Anti-town != scum.

Was the answer right?

Any luck?

Zeriel; Peek has in fact been mislynched for making too much sense. And for being too helpful. And there was some other weird thing he got lynched for, but in that case he actually was scum, so it wasn’t a mislynch.

On the other hand, my earth-to-peeker translator still seems to be working adequately. Imperfectly, but adequately.

Swear to god, I read this as Jews first and had to do a triple take

Kind of why I will not welcome a lynch but will kind of go, meh. When I flip town it will at least put that tired shit to rest. Plus I may be to dumb to play this game. I thought that not only did you have to pick a target but specify an action as well. Hence my question to NSF earlier.

Fucking auto caps and auto correction iPhone. But I’ll be arsed if I am going back and changing anything.

maybe if this makes sense

This math does not compute to me.

The rest of the post is below. I feel it is an argument with itself to me (WIFOMish)

I’ve noticed a general trend among the voting so far. Looking at all of the players who have been voted for more than once:

voting for peeker: Giraffe, Special Ed, NAF1138 (all Dopers)
voting for Dancecat: Idle thoughts, Giraffe (both Dopers)
voting for Giraffe: Special Ed, peeker (both Dopers)
voting for Mykbot: Zeriel, Timelady (a mixed couple)

This would support the idea that ‘strangers are bad’; we don’t want to vote for the same person as an ‘outsider’ because they are not to be trusted. I also think it’s interesting that most of the votes that have been cast so far are from the SDMB players rather than the 2+2 players; I would have expected just the opposite, given that they are more used to short Days and a faster pace.

vote Timelady

for breaking the ‘culture barrier’ and voting along with Zeriel (whose vote was half-joking to begin with), for her stated reason (“obvious vote is obvious”) and for later justifying her vote by pointing out how “early voting tends to be done more by townies”

And if I have been too fucking nice maybe it’s me freudianally not wanting to offend new folks. I mean with chicks that I am having sex with I typically wait until the second time to start farting in their presence.

Where’s the fucking f5 button on an iPhone?

And just to let you know this forcing game is seriously cutting into my angry birds time.

I think he used “naively” to show that he was over-simplifying to make the point but I see what you mean, Scum can put 1 and 1 together as a collective much faster than town so the data can quickly become information whereas for town it’ll remain mostly noise for some time. Do you see scum intent in Zeriel’s post?

I gave up trying to follow the thread on my iphone, too much scrolling.

I had exactly the same thought! I just started playing it last week and I’m glad I’m breaking the habit.

Hrmm, I’m sensing the old Peeker’s back, was it the votes?

Yeah, it’s actually a mild pity someone called him out on it, because that means he can now work to disguise a scum tell.

actually it’s called a job. back in the day i could just farcking watch post by post and comment accordingly. now it seems like a page or two goes by between meetings and other kind of job stuff. plus when you aren’t working it’s just as easy to start the day with a mimosa as it is a cup of coffee.

I’m undecided on Peeker but this post reads all wrong to me. If it’s a real scum tell, why aren’t you voting Peeker (you’re not, right?), moreso given his apparent change in posting style since he gained 3 votes? Why is it a pity that he was called out on it?

Vote Scathach

Like I said it ‘pings me’ or as I sometimes say it doesn’t smell quite right.
It seems to me that he’s playing down the potential benefit to Scum and boosting the benefit to Town (when I don’t see that as the case)
I will give the poster a chance to respond before voting but this is one that I may end up voting for.
There are others that I’m watching as well but I’m giving them some ‘rope’
