Guiri, are you saying that Scathatch made a slip in his post that indicated that he’s sad that peeker might be a better scum in future games? If so, why do you think that has any bearing on this particular game?

There’s a lot of metagaming going on here. Not that we have much to go on Day One, but I’m wondering how much meta stuff goes on with our new friends on their board. Is using people’s past play to predict current alignment something that happens frequently there?

The NAFlette is great. We took her to Sesame Place, a Sesame Street theme park, yesterday and she had a blast. She is just getting old enough to really appreciate that sort of thing. She got a stuffed Elmo toy and is totally in love. We also got some professional pictures taken so I will try to post those as well as some of the pic from the trip to GBB in the next week or so.

There’s a decent amount of compare/contrast against a person’s previous town/scum games trying to find significant trends from one or the other. It’s never the end all be all of course, but just another data point for us to go on.

I’m trying to keep it to a dull roar so that I don’t ruffle any feathers. Somehow I don’t think spamming the thread endlessly and verbally bitchslapping everyone who pisses me off would bode very well here.

I’ve already elaborated the purpose of my comment and how it was based on some Meta with dancecat and her typical feelings on the game.

The thing is, obviously nobody from here knows this meta, so instead you have to look at it at face value. I can see how it can be seen as:

1. I notice dancecat isn’t excited
2. I ask whats up with that
3. Dancecat says she’s just trying to be non-confrontational

And therefore deduced that Dancecat is playing differently than I am used to with the reasoning being not trying to stir things up. The next logical progression is “Why is she acting differently on the new board”, which can easily be viewed as “maybe she is nervous about being scum against people she doesn’t know and doesn’t want to be the center of controversy”.

This is relevant to note that while I’ve played games with Dancecat, I have not played a game with her where she was town. It will be become more relevant later.

Interesting. While it’s almost too obvious, this fits my pattern of typical scum on Day one (following the action but staying quieter than usual, trying not to ruffle feathers) so well that I think it’s worth a vote at this point.

Um, I’ve been pretty loud and opinionated thus far. Not sure why you think I’m purposefully trying to blend in; I’m merely trying to keep my personal style of playing in check since it can be VERY abrasive and I’m new to this board.

I was randed scum two big games in a row last month and it was exhausting. When the next game came around and I was town again I was thrilled and really excited/eager to player and it showed.

I know you’re scum situation was much longer than mine and it worries me that you’re not nearly as excited as I’ve envisioned you being when the streak broke.

Yeah it was like 9 games or something. I subbed in as a villager in donkx4’s game that ran last week or the week before or something, so this isn’t my first non-scum game in months.

Fair enough, I should have said “playing differently than usual” rather than “staying quieter than usual.” Still, reading back through your early posts, I’m not hating my vote. If a brash player were to find themselves Wolf on an unfamiliar board, this is kind of the by-the-book style I’d expect: post a lot, but about strategy and other safe topics, throw an early vote on someone for an anti-Town proposal.

I’m sure someone will come along who is scummier than you, but I think this is a good place to leave my vote for now.

I think this also follows his/her previous point logically, and remains internally consistent.

On this board: one. (Town, and I think I got lynched the first Day.)
On my board: maybe six? The last one I got lynched the first Day (as scum), in large part because I loudly and dramatically bemoaned how terrible I am at Mafia. So I’m definitely not going to do that, but don’t get too riled up by my vote because I really am fairly terrible at this game.

I don’t think anybody who’s reading what I’ve written could legitimately argue that I haven’t posted anything controversial. In fact, I was pretty much the first person to call NAF’s idea out, and generated a lot of discussion around it.

Ok, that’s what I needed to know. In that case, your vote on me isn’t made for scummy reasons (even though it’s still wrong). If you were an experienced player and made that post, it would be a major scumtell since someone who’d played 20+ games and had read the posts I’ve made here would know better.

The orange part of this exchange is very important to me. Rather than “your vote is bad, I vote you”, Dancecat comes in and gets more information from Giraffe, and then uses the information that Giraffe is relatively new to deduce it’s not for scummy reasons.

If Dancecat was scum, she had an easy reason to vote Giraffe here that would garnish very little heat and chose not to take it. As scum, I have seen Dancecat take these spots.

Dancecat gets a villager lean from me for now.

And read the posts that I quoted in my vote. One of the 2+2 guys says “hey Dancecat, you’re being quieter than usual, wtf?” he says “loo loo loo, just trying not to get in trouble” which seems suspicious to me. Turns out he’s not actually being quiet, so I shouldn’t have taken the other poster’s word on that, but reading his posts, the “consciously trying to post carefully” does seem evident, so I think my original feeling still stands.

It was never about the quietness, it was about the change in behavior. For example, if I was playing with you on a different board and all of a sudden you’re capitalizing things and not yelling at everybody, I’d be suspicious of that as well.

I think Giraffe responded well to Peekers vote here as well. Again, his defense/explanation is logical and consistent with what he’s been saying so far. It makes sense if he read my initial comment to Dancecat in a manner which I stated earlier.

I feel like I need to elaborate on my quote that started this. I commented to dancecat that she didn’t seem overly excited, and asked if it’s “same old, same old?”. I asked this because she - to my knowledge - had not been able to play a game as town in approx 10 of them. Knowing how much she’s hated playing as scum lately, I figured she’s be extremely excited about being Town if she was one here. I didn’t really notice that, so I asked her what was up.

However, there apparently was a recent game seeing her subbing into a game and getting to play as town, so the whole “she should be excited” thing doesn’t matter anymore.

I am not longer skeptical as of right now.

Once I elaborate further, Giraffe realizes he misread my initial comment, causing his entire reasoning for his vote to become incorrect. Rather than continue with his vote stubbornly, he gives another townie-like response to Peeker’s vote.

His entire thought process and logical reasoning from start to finish in this episode feels genuine. I will consider him a town lean for now as well.

I have to find that thread on GBB, and maybe add MiniZer to it. She’s around 9 months now.
