Here is CNN’s interview with Susanne Craig, the reporter who received part of Donald Trump’s 1995 tax filings. She speaks a totally standard “middle” American dialect, with the exception of the short “a”, e.g. pronouncing “taxes” as “toxes” and “Jack” as “Jock”. The rest of her speech doesn’t indicate any particular dialect to me. What is the source of this dialect? It sound affected.
She’s Canadian, if that helps any.
In what part of Canada do they speak exactly like me, except for one vowel, which comes out extremely different?
She’s from Calgary.
Yup, Canadian. When she says she talked to “Jack about taxes”, that gives it all away. If it makes OP feel better, I detect a touch of New Yorker.
