Nail Polish Clothing Disaster, Tips? :(

Tragedy strikes!

Sooooo I took a long walk in the sun today, just from the need for exercise, for sun. I was also yenning for something nice-smelling SO I figured I would walk to the pharmacy and try all the hand lotions (yes, this is how I spend my time- I am unemployed, after all). I wound up buying this great lemon-scented lotion, and also finding a bottle of my favorite nail polish (maybelline 50-second) on sale, too- pale pink color.

On the way back home, after a stop at the grocery store (strawberries, two for $4!), I swung through the local thrift store and found an AMAZING dress. Amazing. Nice color, nice material, good for casual or dressy, fit perfectly. Made my waist look small and my chest look big- SUPER flattering. For $10, I was in love.

Walking home, with two bags of groceries and the bag with the dress and the bag with the lotion/nail polish, I pull out my phone to send my b/f a happy note (he called me, this morning, to wish me a good day!). While I’m texting, I trip on the curb and fall on my knees. Ouch! What am I, 6 years old? I get up and keep going.

When I get home, I realize that, when I fell, the bottle of nail polish broke. ALL OVER THE DRESS. Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh, *%&%*&!. It FIGURES.

After an hour with resolve carpet cleaner, and scrubbing, and minor yet disappointing results, I’m giving up and taking it to the dry cleaner. Maybe they’ll have a trick or two. I feel like, even though my life has been OK up until now, it would be a tragedy to continue without this dress in my wardrobe holster.

I can’t afford to buy NEW, NICE clothing :frowning: Darn.

And yet, life goes on! Any chance I can bleach the whole thing out if the nail polish doesn’t lift? Or dye the whole thing dark (it’s a light beige jersey material)?

Maybe I can tie-dye it?

Any ideas?

Don’t bleach - it weakens the material. You can try nail polish remover.

I would probably toss it. Unless it’s 100 percent cotton there’s a good chance the acetone in nail polish remover will eat it anyway. For a ten dollar dress, it’s just not worth going to extremes.

You can buy non acetone polish remover, I’d try that.

Alice is right. If the dress is cotton, I’d chance non acetone nail polish or krud kutter (or both). If it’s synthetic, you’ll probably have to toss it. Dye will just colour the fabric that isn’t stained with nail polish.

I learned that little tip when I was 12 and spilled nail polish remover on my pants and it ate my underwear.

I hope this may help.

Thanks guys! My roommate, who used to sell textiles, thinks we can do some magic with some pink dye if the dry cleaner can’t get it out. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Hope it works out. Accidents always happen to me with a new outfit never my old duds. I got bleach on my new pants and had good luck with Rit Dye.
