Name for a new cat...

My bro just got a new kittin. [sub](Like there are old ones?)[/sub]

It’s a Birmees with blue eyes.
[collective audience]
Ahhhhhhhhh…
[/collective audience]

He’s looking for a nice East Indian name for it. Something that sounds ‘cool’, as he put it.
I’m sure it would help if it meant something nice too. =)

Can anyone out there help me out?

I will not rest until someone names their cat Gary. [sub]Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?[/sub]

Shiva.

Graphenburg. (It’s good for dogs, it’s good for cats, it’s all purpose.)
-Rue.

Or, the more common:
Grafenberg.
-Rue.

<----

d&r

Shiva is cool, but it’s been used a lot. :frowning:

Grafenberg: What is that from and does it mean anything?

RE: “Cougarfang” Saw that coming.

oh PBBBBBTTTTTTHHHHHHHTTTTTTTT… :stuck_out_tongue:

Shiva is the name of a male god.

The name of his female consort is Kali, the many-armed goddess of death (I’m not Hindu, someone correct me if I’m wrong)

The correct name’s Burmese  (NO NO DONT SHOOT PLEASE!)

There once lived an east indian astrophysicist surnamed Chandrasekhar. Could call it Chandra for short! (this guy won the Nobel prize. I think he deserves to have a cat named after him.)

Grafenberg is really a better name for a dog, because “Spot” is cliché. That’s all I’m sayin’.
-Rue.

Forgot to mention the cat is male.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Is this a boy kitty, or a girl kitty?

Krishna, the shepherd god (who gets a lot of nookie :stuck_out_tongue: )
Radha, who is the favored consort of Krishna
Kali, the goddess of war and chaos (kali means black as well, might be better for a black cat)
Gita Govinda, Love Divine
Or you can use Zyada, which means “too much” in hindu

Um, it is male or female?
(Turn the kitten over - it should be printed underneath)

Any special markings?
(My cat’s tortoiseshell littermate had a white spot between its eyes - I wanted to name it Bindi, but my landlady kept that cat and gave me Mud.)

Any quirks about the cat?
(Acrobatic? Lazy? Incredibly curious? Belligerent?)

More info might help the TM[sup]tm[/sup] to personalize the critter.

White-tigeress maybe??? I am cute 2

Male

It’s a creamy-grey with a black spot ont he tip of it’s tail. It has grey ‘tiger-like’ stripes on his face.

It’s extreamly curious and adventurous. It has a habbit of finding the smallest places and climbing into them.

And Scottish. That’s one thing we have in common.

Don’t know if I’d want a Scottish cat…2 HotHeads in the house could be a bit of a problem.

How about Nicodemus? Or Anubis? I know you said East Indian, but those are what came to mind.

I’m also thinking Gandalf ('cause he’s gray).
That’s all for now.

Those sound great. I’ve passed them off to my brother. (Along with the rest of them.)

Gandalf is out. (Maybe) We had a Golden Retriever named Gandalf when we were kids.

Bob.

Here are some real names of tigers in India, from the book Tiger; Portrait of a Predator, by Valmik Thapar, an Indian:

Kublai (male)
Noon (female)
Genghis (male)
Padmini (female)
Laxmi (female)
Akbar (male)
Babar (male)
Hamir (male)

The tiger in The Jungle Book is named Shere Khan, and the black panther is Bagheera.

I don’t know Hindi, but the Arabic word for tiger is pronounced “nimmer”, (spell it how you like), the word for lion is “assad” (pronounced “acid”), the word for cat is not something you want to pronounce everyday… The word for grey is “ramady” (ruh-MAH-dee).
