Name of old Apple II game

My brother and I were nostalgically recalling an old game he had on an Apple II compatible which was primitive compared to today’s games (of course) but lots of fun. I wondered if you could get a version that would run on a modern pc, but while Google is Your Friend, he is not your friend if you cannot think of the name of something to look for it.

From what I remember there was a rectangular battlefield with an opponent at each end, landscape orientation. I think you slowly acquired energy with which to create new units, which were commanders, bunkers or shields and missiles(?). The object was to advance across the screen and capture your opponent’s command centre. I think you could play against the computer, but you could also play with two people using a joystick each on the same computer.

The bunkers were a solid figure shaped like a small triangle joined to a small rectangle and every time they were shot they were damaged slightly. I think they could take 5-10 shots before they were destroyed. The shooters automatically shot any enemy unit in range. They could only take 1 shot before being destroyed. The commanders sole purpose was to command all units in I think about a 3x3 square centred on the commander. They were also destroyed on one shot. The shooter was shaped the same way as the bunker except with an outline instead of solid. I think the shooter might have had a dot in the middle to distinguish it from the commander which was otherwise the same.

Is any of this sounding familiar to anyone out there?

Don’t know the specific game, but it sounds like a variant of the classic game “Artillery.” I’ve seen several games like this, maybe even a couple of Apple][ versions. Jeez, I even recall playing this game on the old PLATO IV system, that must have been around 1970.
You can run the old classic games via emulators, there’s an Apple][ emulator for the Mac called “Bernie II” so look around the web for it. Variants of this game may also be available via the MAME (or MacMAME) community.

oops, upon rereading the OP, I guess I was off track, this isn’t a variant on Artillery, since you said it fired automatically. Sorry. But check out the emulator community on the net. They’ll know this stuff.
