Same song, I prefer pentatonix version.
I like Pentatonix too, but the video that goes with the Great Big World video is incredibly powerful when paired with the song. I’ve been in two of the three scenarios in it, and the worst things I’ve experienced so far in life are depicted in it - having to walk away when it’s the last thing in the world you want to do, but you have no other choice.
What a voice…I don’t listen to music on the radio much, but this was on an episode of House and it blew me away.
I would like to name several songs because that’s how I enjoy music - listening to all sorts of stuff.
Since I am only allowed one then I will offer a 1993 song (I know, too old, but I only heard it for the first time about 15 years ago) Into Dust by Mazzy Star
TCMF-2L
Third start at a song - I keep changing my mind. But if one, then Tim Minchin - White Wine in the Sun, a christmas song that is all about family and love.
Baby Birch by Joanna Newsom
The first album, Chants and Dances of the Native Americans was released in 1994. The album was nominated for best New Age album Grammy Award.[2] In keeping with the Native American theme, Zundel adopted the pseudonym ‘The Fearsome Brave’, and on his many other projects he is simply credited as ‘The Brave’. The music conveys the stories, legends and plight of the Native Americans by combining sampled chants of the Navajo, Pueblo and Sioux tribes and Sami people yoik with synthesizer backings, all driven forth by a combination of traditional drumming and electronic dance-beats.

Just under the wire. My entry too.
Most of the National’s ouevre is wrist-slitting music too.
I’m bawling right now, listening to this song. I always think of my son, who died 6 years ago at the age of 30. Certain lyrics are for the two beautiful kids he left behind, others are for me and others for his then finacee`.
I think I’m besting you all for recency, but then I’m disqualifying myself by not offering a solitary entry. The problem is that I’m really still unable to decide which chokes me up the most so I’ll just suggest you guys listen to Jackson Browne’s last album, Downhill from Everywhere because it’s just full of zingers that had me catching my breath while I was trying to catch up on my SDMB reading the other night. The album came out in mid-July [of 2021], I think.

FTR, Kesha Sebert dropped the dollar sign from her name after she finally broke free from Dr. Luke and stopped recording crunk.
And her Bob Dylan cover is a worthwhile addition to this thread;
The Old 97s “Question.”
It’s not even a sad song – it’s a happy one, about a couple getting engaged. (The band sometimes calls out recently engaged audience members to dedicate the song to them.) But the way Rhett Miller sings “Once in your life … maybe tonight” gets me every time. Shit, it’s getting me now and I’'m not even hearing it!
The Mountain Goats have a song called “This Year” that is just a killer. John Darnielle looks back on his abusive upbringing and the fortitude it took to hang on long enough to escape. “I am going to make it through this year … if it kills me” crushes me every time.
I’ve always thought that Gram Parsons “$ 1000 Wedding” was the saddest song ever, but then Ryan Adams gave Gram a run for his money with “Pa”. It’s about laying first your mother and then your father to their graves.
