Above is a list of fictional robots, cyborgs, machines, AIs, computers, and other electronic computer systems or networks, taken from film, literature, comics, video games, television, cartoons, and pretty much all over.

Can you name what fictional work each one is from? And can you answer the question: computer or robot?

MAGIC VOICE!!! from MST3K…computer

Colossus is from The Forbin Project and is also a computer.

Conky 2000 is from Pee Wee’s Playhouse and is a robot.

Rosie is from the Jetsons and is also a robot.

Irona is Richie Rich’s robot maid.

Hex is the magical supercomputer from the Discworld novels.

Kryten is a robot from Red Dwarf.

Isn’t EV-9D9 a Star Wars droid? (the torturer in Jabba’s palace?)

A couple of d’ohs that I missed…

Dr. Theopilus is from the TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and is a computer.

Jet Jaguar is a robot from a Godzilla movie, but damifiremember which one.

Oh! And Gort is the robot from The Day The Earth Stood Still.

This is the last one I’m answering, really!

Dora is Lazarus Long’s sentient spaceship, so I guess would be computer rather than robot.

Kryten - Red Dwarf - robot
343 Guilty Spark - robot from Halo
Wintermute - A.I. from…uh…snow crash?
Number Six - hubba hubba… 99 44/100 woman, 66/100 Cylon
Landru - Star Trek
Dr. Thopolis - ‘Scientist’ Buck Rogers, carried by Wiki?
Huie Dewie and Louie - were they the ROV’s from The Abyss?
Goddard - Jimmie Neutron’s dog. Play Dead! BOOM!

Hactar is from the Hitchhiker’s Guide series. Don’t remember which book. Computer.
Wintermute is Neuromancer. AI system.
Durundal is from Marathon 2: Durundal, a semi-obscure video game? Um…I believe it was a ship. So…computer?
Goddard is from Jimmy Neutron. Robot dog.
Dog is from Half-Life 2. Robot doggish bearish mammoth thing.
Skynet is from Terminator. AI system/computer network.

And I guess a few of my own:

JJ1 - Holly
JJ2 - Fi
JJ3 - Sam

jayjay gets 11 points for Magic Voice, Colossus, Conky 2000, Rosie, Irona, Hex, Kryten, EV-939, Dr. Theopolis, Gort, and Dora.

Unintentionally Blank has 7 points with Kryten, 343 Guilty Spark, Wintermute, Number Six (hubba hubba), Landru, Dr. Theopolis, and Goddard. (I’m counting these as simulposts.)

Electronic Chaos has 6, for Hactar, Wintermute, Durandal, Goddard, Dog, and Skynet.

Still remaining:

On JJ-1, I’m guessing Holly as the central computer in Red Dwarf. (Is everybody having fun yet?)

Oops. Unintentionally Blank didn’t give the story for Wintermute, so that score should be 6.

And Electronic Chaos didn’t give the book for Hactar — but he is from one of the Hitchhiker’s books, somewhere — so that should be 5.

Just caught another one! B.O.B. is the old robot in The Black Hole.

And you’re correct, Fish.

Gah! I’m posting too much here. But Huey, Dewey and Louie were the robots in Silent Running, weren’t they?

M5 is a computer from Star Trek.
The General is a computer from The Prisoner.

ED-209 was from the first Robocop movie.

HK-47 is a psychotic, homicidal robot from the video game “Knights of the old Republic.”

S.C.M.O.D.S. is the computer system from the Blues Brothers (State County Municipal Offender Datat System)(IIRC)

Epicac is the computer that falls in love in a Vonnegut Short Story (I am embarrased that I have to look up which one)

The story is called Epicac. :smack:

Yes, Huey Duey and Louie were the robots from “Silent Running.”

Everybody else is also correct.

Here’s what’s left:

I keep expecting :smack: from people when they realize who some of the names were.

Hymie is from Get Smart.

And I think WOTAN is from Dr. Who.
