Name that movie time: 90's, paint, lesbian (?)

Not big in the theater; I saw it on VHS and it wasn’t well known. I’m not sure if it was direct to video or a limited release or just didn’t do well in the theaters. Mid to late 90’s or maybe early 2000s. The best I can recall, this wasn’t actually a pornographic film, although those keywords sure do make it sound like it. It was a coming of age film, but I think it was PG-13 or R. The scene I’m trying to find was two young women (roommates? friends? lovers?) who paint each other’s bodies as they’re rolling around on fabric or canvas of some sort. I think sexyfuntimes ensue, but I’m not 100% certain.

(Really, any cool clips involving body paint would be appreciated, although it’s annoying me I can’t think of this movie specifically. It was a mediocre film, but a great scene, and I want to show it to someone running a body paint/fabric paint workshop.)

I know that’s not much to go on, but y’all have come through on much weaker leads in the past!

The Google tells me it might be: “Better Than Chocolate”?

Boom. Less than half an hour. You rock. Thank you!

Why am I not surprised.

Back when I used to frequent Blockbuster every weekend, that DVD case made the rounds. People used to pick it up (intrigued by the cover no doubt) and then set it down somewhere else in the store when they decided to go with something else. It happened so often that I began to suspect someone was doing it to be funny.

I’ve been looking for halfway decent lesbian films for some time. Is it any good?

I haven’t seen it since it came out. I remember not hating it…but I loved Reality Bites, too, so I clearly have a high tolerance for 90s melocomedia. Or lousy taste in movies.

And yep, found it when working at Blockbuster.

It’s a little rough around the edges, very indie in the acting and production values, but also very sweet-natured. A fun way to pass the time (beyond the sexy stuff, which is nice in its own way, ahem)

My guess was going to be Vivid, a 1999 movie starring Kari Wuhrer (although she was using her married name, Kari Salin, at the time). Wuhrer played an artist’s nude model and there were scenes of her body getting painted before a sex scene. I don’t know if there were any lesbian scenes though.

High Art with Ally Sheedy.

Bound. MMmmm…

High Art is one of the best…
Although I like fine arts a lot, does it seem weird to you guys that every lesbian movie has to have something to do with art…

Directed by the same woman who directed the Stone Cold Steve Austin film Knockout.
(It’s actually pretty obvious when you watch the two films back-to-back.)

Au contraire, Pierre; you never saw The Hunger, with Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon, and David Bowie, I guess? It was a vampire story. And the above-cited Bound was a straight-up heist flick.

Both, in my memory, really good films that had far more to offer than just fanservice.

Yea I totally forgot Bound, and Night Watch I guess. I was having a hard time trying to remember good recent ones.
No I haven’t seen that one. Believe or not I am too scared to see any vampire movies…
