I heard on the radio this morning that the NFL is going to be putting an expansion team in Las Vegas. They’ll need a name, of course.
Let’s see…
The Vegas Hookers ?

Aces?
Blackjacks?
Gamblers (probably won’t fly), Dealers (same), Devils ('cause it’s so hot!), Heatwave, Scorpions, Sidewinders
Craps
NHL, not NFL. Vegas, Seattle, Quebec, and Toronto, so the rumo(u)r goes.
If it were NFL, I would say Punters.
I could have sworn one of the teams in *Baseketball *was the Las Vegas Strippers.
If they don’t go with a desert theme, or a generic wild animal, then Blackjacks would work.
If they name it the Blackjacks, they totally should have a crude caricature of a black guy so people can put their money where their mouth is when they say “No, it wouldn’t be racist to have a caricature of a black guy or a Jew! It’d be honoring them!” (Re: Chief Wahoo)
The Jackpot.
Fritzy just made his suggestions. My favorite was Mirages.
The Betters
The White Tigers.
“Roughriders” is available.
Ah, I guess I misheard them. I did think Quebec City was rather a long shot for a football team…
…Hang on a second. Doesn’t Toronto already have a hockey team? Is something happening to the Maple Leafs?
Back to Las Vegas: How about The Cash? Green uniforms with a golden dollar sign emblem.
Nope. Toronto is like NY, big enough to support 2 teams.
Not a puckhead, but Seattle-Vancouver will become a cool rivalry.
Nope, thats the London team.
IIRC **RickJay **once posted a link to a market study the NHL had done that showed TO could support *six *franchises, and Montreal four. That does seem a bit much, but the real number is certainly more than one.
I understand there’s a new arena already built in Toronto, and an adequate one in Hamilton if it comes to that. Did Quebec renovate Le Colisee, or is that a new building too?
The Las Vegas Double-Downers? Degenerates? Enforcers?
I don’t doubt that Toronto is big enough to support two teams, but where would the second team draw its support from? How will they build a fan base? Torontonians are already dedicated Maple Leafs fans, what will make a Maple Leafs fan abandon the team (if decades of bad play couldn’t make them do that already)? Would you make some sort of regional split, create a suburban team? That sort-of worked out for the Mets (who actually had a built-in fan base made of fans of the Dodgers and Giants), Jets and Islanders in New York, but the Jets and Islanders are clearly second citizens to the Giants and Rangers in their metro area (and the regional separation has now broken down somewhat as well).
I really don’t get how there’s any reasonable expectation of success.
