Name the twins!

We have found out the sex of our kids, and found that we have gone with the odds and are having fraternal (2/3 of twins are fraternal) boy and girl (50% chance of that)! We are extremely pleased that everything appears to be fine at this point.

Suggestions, please, for the names of our twins! We will consider all suggestions, but will only use 1 (maybe 2) for each child. Points awarded for style, creativity and uniqueness (but will not accept Mr. Mxlyplxc, or whatever that superman nemesis is called…well, okay we’ll consider it).

Have at it!

True story:

Guy goes up to Jimmy Buffett at a book signing and told JB that he and his music has had a profound influence on him and he would like to introduce his two children to JB. The kids are named “Jimmy” and “Buffey”.

That’s what I suggest.

No, wait, name the girl “Alice” and the boy “Cooper”.

Spiritus Mundi and I already have dibs on all the cool baby names for this year…line forms to the right…

For the love of Mike, please don’t saddle these kids with pair names like Jim and Kim, Mary and Larry, or Jane and Wayne (BTW, naming a kid Wayne dramatically increases the chance they’ll be a serial killer).

That being said, I had friends who were fraternal twins. They had similar, but sufficiently different, names. Kevin and Kim. That had a good ring to it.

So far as creative names…hmmmm.

Dave and Maddie
Zan and Jayna (It may be rough on them, but at least they’d learn how to take a punch.)
Chris and Pat
Clark and Lois

Sorry, not real creative this morning.

Sakura for the girl and Kero (short for Keroberos) for the boy. and congrats!

Congratulations!

True story: Friends of ours had twins, a boy and a girl, and named them Max and Madeline. The birth announcement had a picture of a bunch of M&Ms candies on it, some plain and some with peanuts. The text said, “Announcing the arrival of our M&Ms–one with nuts and one without.”

I have no suggestions at the moment - just a plea: Try to visualize your kids 15 or 30 years from now. Make sure the names work then. My FIL was named Bobbie - an adorable name for a baby, but kinda silly for a 40 y/o businessman, and just plain weird for a 70 y/o retiree…

This has little to do with the OP, but my dad went to school with twins named Ivory and…Ovary.

Congratulations, and good luck.

And, considering that I do this in every thread that asks for name suggestions. . .

Have you considered “Elvis?” Or, for twins, “Elvis” and “Presley?”

Of course “Casey” (my name IRL) is a good name for either sex.

If they turn out to be boys, do *I * have the name for you:

Dermot & Kermit.

Being that it is a set,

Earl and Pearl

I seconded the Chris and Pat, what fun in Who’s who.

I think it all depends on what you want. Do you want them to have the same first letter? Sound similar?

I like: Isabelle and Isaac

or: Alexander (which could be shortened to “Alex” or “Xander”) and Josephine (also many ways to shorten for a cute nickname)

Congrats  !!

Go with the classics: Charles and Mambo.

Seriously, just go with two names you like on an individual basis. The kids are going to go through life connected enough without being two halfs of a punchline.

Looks like Silly Rabbit and I have similar taste in names. I love both Isabella and Alexander.

A few more favorites for girls: Catherine, Margaret, Elizabeth, Zara, Danielle, Angela, Mira, Anne, Rachel, Francesca, Aria

And for boys: Daniel, Samuel, Maxwell, Michael, Marcus, John, James, Domenic, William, David

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. I guess I stay away from trendy and go for either traditional or slightly off-beat.

Congratulations!

When my sister asked me this question, I recommended Denise and

Denephew!

Oh dear, my wife was considering names beginning with ‘M’…that sounds like fun…

A friend suggested Gene and Jezebel…we politely declined (if scoffing is polite).

I expected more from you people…have fun with this!

Luke and Leia!

I agree with FairyChatMom [keep it simple and something that the folks can live with as they age].

Also, I agree with my grandma who said: “treat each child as the individual that they are because they are all different”. She had a gazzillion and one kids herself.

I am a mom of three kids who are all 13 years old for this month of January [twins born on 5 Jan and older brother born on 5 Feb]. My word of advice on naming your kids is: keep it simple and easy to say since they tend to get into trouble together. Avoid overly long names such as Sebastian or Elizabeth because you will call them by their proper names when angry, ie: Sabastianelizabeth is too long and they will be long gone be the time you are finished calling them.

As for living with twins: find other parents of twins to learn by their experience. That’ll save you lots of time and energy rather than learning everything yourself. Usually the books / magazines aren’t all that helpful plus they are hung up on ‘twinness’. You’ll enjoy the experience but BE PREPARED. And yes, you can breastfeed successfully but find your own strategy.

Finally, congratulations. Folks look at us with three almost triplets and ask “how in god’s name did you do it”?
Well, the same way as you raise all kids; but you have the advantage of dealing with kids all at the same developmental stage rather than hoping back n forth between a six year old, a four year old and a two year old - what mental gymnastics.

Have a wonderful pregnancy, Kiffa

When they were still gestating mine were Thing One and Thing Two.

kiffa, where I come from those would be “Irish triplets” since “Irish twins” are two kids the same age in the same family, but born less than a year apart. Especially if they are in the same grade.

dropzone - I tried that once…ONCE…can’t really do it now that we know it’s he/she (or s/he).

Hmmm, maybe other Suessian names would be fun…we’ll have to think about that…

Left and Right!
