I see many of my fellow dopers are quite adept at naming movies. I will attempt to stump you guys and gals here, but I really want to know what these were called.
I can’t remember the whole show, but I think the plot was a guy who broke into a families home and kept them hostage. I especially remember the scene where the bad guy put his cigarette out in a hamster/gerbil. That scene warped me as a kid…for years. I think it was made in the 70s, possible even late 60s?
There was some kind of jailbreak, and 4 or 5 cons escape. They rob a bank and steal a car. One of the cons was a kid about 16 or so…it seems to me the movie was more about him than anything else. I remember the cons going to a house and breaking in and killing the males. They (or one of them) raped the wife and they brought her along as a hostage or toy. The black fellow ended up shooting her a while later. It seems to me this one may be a true story. The movie is probably from the late 70s/early 80s.
Could this be The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, with Jodie Foster and Martin Sheen? I’m more familiar with the book (read it numerous times) than the movie (saw it once), but these plot elements are similar. Toward the middle of the movie, Sheen cons his way into Jodie’s house while she is home alone and, while he is there, presses a lit cigarette into her pet rat’s eyes before throwing it into the fireplace. He is only there for a little while, though, although he does come back to torment her (psychologically) at the end of the movie/book.
I’ve tried to describe the movie without giving away too much. Does it sound like what you saw?
It sounds like you’re describing the Alday murders, which took place in Seminole County, Georgia in 1973. Carl Isaacs and several of his fellow inmates escaped from prison in Maryland, picked up Carl’s teenage brother Billy, and headed south.
They came upon the trailer home of the Alday family and broke in while no one was home. Then the family came home, one by one, and one by one they were horrifically murdered, and the woman of the family was raped first. Six in all were killed.
This true story was made into the 1988 TV-movie Murder One. Is that maybe what you’re thinking of?
