Name this "horror" movie

I had a very brief memory today of this movie from the late 1970’s,. perhaps early 80’s.

All I can remember about the plot is some people were kidnapping the townsfolk and then chopping them up and selling the meat (or perhaps they were just eating them, I can’t remember)

In the movie we learn the townsfolk were buring up to their heads in “the garden” to be fattened up -or some other nonsense. Their mouths were taped shut and a bag was put over their heads.

I remember one silly scene where they show “the garden” and it is a row of bags moving around.

The movie in all was pretty crappy low-grade horror. I want to figure out what it was so I can see it again and giggle.

“the townsfolk were buring”

Huh??

That should say “the townsfolk were buried”

Motel Hell from 1980:

The Motel’s sign originally read “Motel Hello”, but the “o” burned out. An idea Tim Burton stole for Batman Returns.

I never saw this movie, but the buried-up-to-their-necks townspeople wer on the movie ad. (And, as you can see, the video cover).

It takes all kinds of critters
to make Farmer Vincent’s fritters!

I think it was inspired by both SWEENY TODD & Ed Gein, perhaps with a nod to Fritz Haarmaan also.

A pre “Cheers” John Ratzenberger was one of the human “plants”. Just caught it again the other night on TMC. Such a fun odd movie. lol.

Motel Hell! That’s it. Thanks Cal.

*now, if I can get this clunker on DVD I’ll be set for “MST3K - the home game”

I’ve been having The CalMeacham Bad Film Festival – sarcastic comments and all – every year since the mid-eighties, well before MST3K hit cable.

And it stars that guy. You know the one. The guy who’s always standing and walking. Ummm…

Rory Calhoun… that’s it!

I used to have a VHS copy of this. It’s a classic. Think I wore it out though. Come on DVD!

It is on DVD as a double feature with Deranged.

Was just about to say that. Looked it up and it is available on Netflix. Sounds like a good old fashioned fun night at the movies…lol!

Yup, here is the DVD,… In widescreen format no less.

DERANGED was great except that the end was totally inconsistent with both the movie & the facts of the case (it was another “based on Gein” & closer to the facts than PSYCHO or TEXAS CHAINSAW).

I loved the portly “Charles Martin Smith-esque” narrator explaining things as he sat on the end of Dead Mom’s bed (assuming I recall correctly L)
