Heard it yesterday for the first time. I think it’s a male singer, kind of mellow but the meaning is a little harder. All I can think of at the moment is “If you <something>, then I’ll knock you down”, and he holds the “down” about four steps down in the melody (you know, he gets lower). I can hear it in my head (and nothign else, thank you) but I have no idea who it is.
It’s popular music, so I guess that means it’s a rock song, although it really doesn’t rock. I’m sure it will be underwhelming or at least a “duh” when I find out who it is.
“Pardon this Coffin” by Roger Miller or the Pine Valley Cosmonauts?
"Pardon this coffin, please step aside
Pardon this coffin, my brother just died
Now don’t you give me no ornary look or I’ll knock you down
I’m taking this coffin, putting it six foot down
I’m telling you, six foot down "
NE Texan, that’s it! Just watched the video over at Yahoo, and I think it’s a pretty good song, I especially like the singer’s voice. Never been a big fan of 311, I would never have picked them. Only song of theirs I know is that Cure song (“Love Song”?) they cover that sounds exactly like the Cure. Thanks, mystery solved.
JSexton, 311’s version of “Love Song” is supposed to be reggae? Wow, I didn’t hear it that way at all. But, now that after turning off everything in the house, closing my eyes, plugging my ears and thinking of “Pass the Dutchy”, yeah, I guess it might be reggae.
“Don’t Tread on Me” has a reggae feel to it, sure, what with the guitar and the drums, but “Love Song”? I don’t hear it that way.
