Name this tune, please.

On the jukebox at the bar where I hung out at in the '80’s was a song. It was countryish and religiousish.
It had a counting theme.
10 are the …something
9 are the…
Any ideas?

Going with religious songs that have numbers, I can only think of one: One, Two, Three, Jesus Loves Me…but that counts upwards, not downwards.

Another religious song that I thought of, reading your half-verses, is what we knew of as the “Crayon-Box Song”.
“Red’s for the color of the blood that He shed, Brown’s for the crown that they laid upon his head, Blue is for royalty…etc…”
Is it possible they were singing colors and not numbers?
I looked this song up on Google, but didn’t find any hits.

Edit: Actually, found it: The Crayon Song - YouTube
Lyrics in the description.

Green Grow the Rushes, O?

This more along the lines of
8 is the eight waiting at the gate
7 is the seven something something heaven.

Was it Green Grow the Rushes? I can’t find it on youtube (there’s a Robert Burns poem set to music by a similar name - there’s lots of those), but I remember singing it in the same time frame at Boy Scout camps.

ETA: Damn it! Scooped!

Possibly a version of Children, Go Where I Send Thee?

On preview I see your possible lyrics, and Children, Go Where I Send Thee has: “Eight for the eight that waited (or: stood) at the gate”

It was the Ricky Skaggs version. Thanks guys.

“I forget what 8 is for … .”

Version of which song?

10 10 10 10 for everything everything everything everything!
