A while back I was reading a series of books about a vampire private eye. He lived in Chicago (and fed from the stockyards there rahter than feeding from humans), he became a vampire after being a privade dick and the books were pretty funny and not terribly good detective fare, but I never finished the series and have since gotten a yearning to do so but can’t for the life of me remember the name of the series.
I liked that series- the early ones, anyway; I thought the later few lost something. The titles all end in ‘in the Blood.’ Was ‘Fire in the Blood’ the first one, or is my memory failing me?
Another really good vampire P.I. series is Tanya Huff’s novels about a female PI, Victoria Nelson, and her vampire friend, Henry Fitzroy.
It is a Canadian series, and there are some distinctly recognizable Toronto and area landmarks mentioned throughout the novels. Also, each novel focuses on a different supernatural aspect. There are demons, werewolves, and mummies as focuses for some of the novels. Great series, easy read, lots of fun!
Harli, was there a scene in those books where two characters (possibly those you just named) share a first kiss/bite in a vehicle? Or is that too vague to know? I’m asking because I once picked up an interesting book in a bookstore and then put it down without remembering the title and author, and I think this may be it.
For reference, the series includes the following books, in order:
Bloodlist (Jack was a reporter before becoming a vampire, BTW.)
Lifeblood
Bloodcircle
Art in the Blood
Fire in the Blood
Blood on the Water
A Chill in the Blood
The Dark Sleep (We finally get a look at Escott’s history.)
Lady Crymsyn
10)Cold Streets
I like the series, but it did go downhill for a while. Now it’s sort of uneven. I liked Lady Crymsyn, but Cold Streets just left me, well, cold. And a little nauseous.
Elrod’s also done a series featuring another vampire who turned up in the Vampire Files–Barrett. I don’t care for the Barrett books, though.
