Thank you SO much! I went over and signed up right away. It’s such a great idea. Well, at least it seems that way to ME… 50,000 words in a month is a big accomplishment, but 50,000 words is not a novel. It just isn’t, IMHO. Not only that, but the process of finishing a novel is not the same as typing 50,000 words, as we all know (or writing in a notebook, or chiseling into rock, or sending by smoke signals… y’all get the basic idea.
And, oh yeah… the last cover! (Well, for NaNoWriMo, anyway. Y’all, this is ABSOLUTELY my favorite that I’ve done. Please check it out!! You don’t have to leave a comment, or anything… just take a look.
There are two and a half hours to go and I definitely won’t make the word count. I am, however, happy with what I’ve gotten out of the process. It’s complicated, but it’s cool.
Congratulations to all of our NaNo winners!
Heck, Congratulations to everyone who played along!
Wheeeee!
BTW, our local group is going to meet again next Tuesday. So if anyone else wants to keep the thread going, I’ll keep dropping in just as sporadically as I ever have.
double post
Congratulations to all the winners–and, indeed, to all who participated. There is worth in making the attempt.
I haven’t commented before, but I’ve loved most of your covers. You are so talented!
Unfortunately I have zero artistic ability. I’ve thought of soliciting a cover in the Nano artisan’s thread. But there’s one catch: I don’t even have a title yet! <sigh>
Do any of you use Scrivener? I’m thinking of getting it for myself (Nano winners get it half price, FYI). I downloaded the trial version today and wondered if anyone else here uses it and likes it. I haven’t had too much of a chance to use it yet, but I think it’s going to be very helpful for me with combining my two novels.
I LOVE Scrivener. I used the trial last year, and promptly used the winner code to buy the full version.
A lot of people get overwhelmed by how many features it has, but in truth, you only have to use what suits you. I opened the spreadsheet view for the first time a week or two back. I said, Hmmm. And closed it back up again. Not my thing.
I also have never bothered with the Scrivenings view, and I haven’t touch footnotes, annotations, links and a whole slew of other stuff.
OTOH, I couldn’t live without the corkboard view.
I do suspect it is more valuable to writers who like to plot things out before hand (as compared to Pantsers.)
But, hey, you get to use the trial versions of 30 days, why not just give it a whirl?
Yeah, I’m a total pantser. I tried to be more organized for Nano but nothing was in the same place so I gave up. Scrivener would help immensely with that, obviously. One thing I like is that I can export it in ebook and other forms. That will be awesome for my beta readers. And myself. Yes, I read my own work over and over. Don’t judge.
Wouldn’t dream of it. I have fanfic from when I was in High School, and have been known to reread that every couple years.
I’m seriously considering having this year’s Nano “published” at one of those places where they print each copy one by one.
Uh. I’ll send it to my mother. Yeah, my mother.
Thanks!!
Well, now that it’s over… it was interesting. I’m not sure if it’s the style of working and writing that really works best for me, but I’m glad I did it. I MIGHT try Scrivener… but somebody on our FB page was saying something about how they’d lost work that way, so until I know more, I might wait.
I did NaNo this year. I didn’t finish, but I DID get 25,000 words I didn’t have before. So it was a success from that standpoint.
So excited!
25,000 is great!
So, last night my husband tells me he was snooping around on my Nook Saturday night when I was out at a work party. He’s going on and on about how bad and boring the book was that he read part of, and I’m thinking oh, crap, he’s talking about my book! Turns out he was talking about The Night Circus. Haha.
Anyone still writing?
Well, I finished my mash-up of my previous novel and my Nano story on Sunday. Right now I’m kind of mad at it, so I’m thinking of letting it sit for a while. Even a week or two would be helpful, I think. Meanwhile, I have a new story I started that I think could be really fun.
Yeah, I just started a new thing, because god forbid I finish stuff.
Yah, 1am this morning I reminded myself that I’m supposed to finish those last two chapters before editing.
Editing is more fun but the story will be better with an ending.
Also hanging out for the next doper short story comp. Got nowhere with the meatspace one I was in.
Been preparing for a rewrite of a short story I wrote back in November.
I finished my 50k, but I have AT LEAST 50k more to go, along with heavy editing and perusing of the first 50k to take notes. (So, this guy was tall here, but short here…)
I’m actually proud; prouder than I thought I would be at finishing this. The entire last week of this was a sprint, with 7,500 words coming the last Monday of November. Silly me, I thought I could only do 1,000 each weekday, and make up on the weekends!
