Is that “plot” as in plot, or “plot” as in “I watch it for the plot”?
Plot! You want actual PLOT! Actually, I know just what you mean. What I’m doing is just writing what I feel led up to the NC-17 portion, constantly adding plot pieces and scenes to be integrated later. It is really kind of a mess to some degree, but in the context of NaNo, I think that makes sense. Now, that NC-17 part of Sex and Single Devil.. (coughs) well, THAT’S the part that’s already done. It’s long. Really long. There’s a lot of it. That’s why the entire book will be about 90,000 words. (whistles innocently)
Gee, I was so proud to finally be ahead of the curve at 39,700 and change, but now I feel like a slacker.
No, seriously, congratulations to your early winners! I hope to be there by Sunday night myself.
Actual plot. I’ve figured out it in general. I just have to figure out specifics. And I still need to figure out the plot from them sleeping together until them living together. I’m sure I’ll end up ignoring my outline once my muse comes back.
I also need to write more fun bits, but those are easier.
There’s actually someone on the Portland FB page who reached 50,000 words about a week ago. But based on occasions when I’ve written a LOT in a very short period of time, I don’t know if it’s possible to get anything that will ever be usable from writing *that *fast. Everyone is different, though. A friend of mine announced to everyone she knew that she couldn’t be contacted by phone, email, text, regular mail, telegram, or messenger pigeon during the entire month of November. Seems like overkill, but to each their own…
I wrote like a madwoman yesterday and crossed the 50k mark last night. Please cue “We Are the Champions.”
WEEEEEE ARE THE CHAMPIOOOOOONS, MY FRI-HENDS…
Congrats!
Y’all MUST see Freddie Mercury in those white shorts. It might be best to do this after eating.
Yay for everyone who’s reached 50k and everybody who’s still writing.
After a few days of meandering through a few sprints every evening to stay engaged, I think I may actually reach ‘the end’ at the Pier write-in tonight. (It’ll be a somewhat crazy downer ending that leaves the door wide open for a sequel, but it does feel like a somewhat reasonable end for this particular adventure.)
And then, maybe I can begin my 10k of sample chapters for “The case of the missing gnomes.”
Congrats to Yellowval,
Chipping away, a solid 2k last night to make 39000 - and it’s Friday down here! Writing time from this afternoon till Monday morning.
That was beautiful! sniff
I wrote a whopping 850 words before going to my mom’s for turkey day and I’m just too lazy to do any more tonight. Oh, well.
CONGRATULATIONS yellowval!!
I’m still in there and going to finish, but every time I catch up and say that I will never fall behind again I…fall behind again. I’m 800 words in the hole right now, not counting the regular amount I have to do today. But I’ll get there!
Anyway, what’s the protocol been here in other years? Does anyone share their stories after they’re done?
Hell no.
Sorry, but I’ve got six months to a year of editing before this thing is ready. As I go I’m noting all the details I’ve got wrong (His uncle cannot have been alive when he was 19. She wears glasses. Has she been there one year or two? etc etc etc) And it’s the third in a trilogy, so there’s two other book that need fine tooth combing out of inconsistencies to match this one, which is the newest and therefore my favourite and therefore the most correct.
ETA, there’s a synopsis and excert in my profile, under the same name.
It’s all good. Your books will be great!
I actually wrote a lot today, because I’ve been inspired and I’ve received ANSWERS about how a lot of things really went down in Sex and the Single Devil. (sigh) It’s set in Portland. It’s where I live. I can’t do it any other way. I hate to do it, though, because of the unspeakable garbage that has been set in the Pacific NW in the past few years. And so as not to set off any controversy, I won’t even clarify WHAT I’m talking about. Ask and ye shall find out, but I’m not going there voluntarily!
Anyway. The point is that even though a lot was written, it’s hard to come up with a quote. Almost all of it is very seminal and formative. Oh, okay, here’s a short one.
And here’s the cover art
I hear you. I’m nowhere near ready to share my novel with anyone either. I’m just intensely curious to read bits and pieces of how other people have responded to the same challenge. Maybe on the NaNo website…
Yes. Where under the username maggenpye, you can find an excerpt (better spelling this time!) of mine!
Not that I’m dropping hints or anything.
I don’t know. I’m not wildly enthused about the official NaNo site for a variety of reasons. I think we should have our own sharing thread right here.
And here’s the cover for today!
30 Days of NaNo, 30 Covers of Anisefics: Sex and the Single Devil 5
I’m an official winner – Yay me!
Of course I still have six scenes to write. And a few dozen project notes along the lines of:
Establish there’s a locked wine cellar in the basement.
Expand on the story of Olexa’s marriage.
Change Norm’s description.
Research: what caliber bullets would a derringer use?
And so forth.
But I can knock all that off easily in five days, right?
But why worry about getting it done on Nov. 30? Actually, we were all just talking about that on the Portland FB NaNo page. How do you decide when you’re “finished”? For the purposes of NaNo, it really does have to be set at an arbitrary word count, and that’s it. Otherwise, it gets hopelessly confusing. (If you have the roughest rough draft ever, 80,000 scenes stuck together with no connection, huge plot holes where Godzilla showed up and stomped everybody, etc., but you wrote “The End”, does that mean it’s “finished”?) If everything ACTUALLY being finished by Nov 30 was the criterion, I suspect that a lot of people would feel so discouraged and overwhelmed that they would never even try.
THAT having been said, if your definition of finished-ness is your goal, well, I’m doing that too. So go for it! YES! Yes, we can! Yay! Go us! (Waves Happy Completion Flag.)
My favorite cover yet! Yay! Is it NC-17. Mmfhidngh… not really, but kinda sorta being close to NSFW, depending on how closely your boss is watching. YOU be the judge.
30 Days of NaNo, 30 Covers of Anisefics: Sex and the Single Devil 6
Validated 50051 words!
Yay me!
About 8-10k of story left to write. Beta readers lined up with their red pens at the ready.
Whee.
