Nashville Dopers - tell me about Williamson county.

Mrs Magill and I may accept a position that would require a move to Nashville. We have done some preliminary research, and we have decided that Williamson county would be the best location. It would be nearer to the sales office I would work out of, and convenient to the area of Nashville her office would be in.

The only other thing we know about the area is that the schools are excellent.

Are there any other areas we should look that have good schools and is convenient to Brentwood and SW Nashville?

Williamson County schools are some of the better public schools in the area. The county is mostly upper middle class to wealthy, a lot of healthcare and insurance execs and a handful of music business folks and pro athletes. The square and the Factory are fun places to browse on the weekends and the area is rich in historical sites.

An alternative area for good schools that is more SE is the Blackman school district of Murfreesboro. It’s pretty convenient to Brentwood.

ETA: Welcome to Nashville! When you get here, holler and we’ll put together a dopefest in your honor.

Nolensville is worth a look.

How is the commute from Mt Juliette the Brentwood and SW Nashville? The schools look good there and the houses look much more affordable.

Mt. Juliet is a fast-growing up-and-coming city with good public schools and a growing tax base. It provides easy access to I-40 which provides quick access to the airport and downtown. It and also has stops on the commuter train line, the Star, to the city. The Providence shopping area has many shops and restaurants and a cinemaplex.

The cost of living and taxes are lower in Wilson county than either Williamson or Davidson/Nashville.

Cons: although it averages middle- to upper-middle class, it’s not as wealthy or prestigious as Williamson County/Brentwood/Franklin. Taking I-40 into the city (or I-40/I-440/I-65 to Brentwood) can be rough during rush hour - it probably depends on what you’re used to. Outside of rush hour, you can be downtown in 15-20 minutes.

I’ve been living in Mt. Juliet for 12 years and have two kids in the public schools so feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

I lost my whole post!

I second Nolensville. Mt. Juliet is too far to drive to Brentwood to work.

Are you looking for an apartment/condo, a house, or acreage? Franklin and Brentwood are more established suburban communities. Nolensville until quite recently was urban and has moved toward suburban. College Grove, Triune and Arrington are further out than Nolensville and still rural.

I live in Rutherford county. It’s nice in that it’s easy to get to Nashville or Brentwood but you don’t have so many big city issues. However, I don’t have kids, and if I did they’d probably go to the local Catholic school. I really don’t know how the public schools compare.

Hmmm…buy this house in College Grove.

For those of you who are keeping score at home, Mrs Magill and I just signed a contract for a house in Nolensville. I would have preferred something a little closer in, but this was a lot of house.

In my opinion, having lived in the area for three years, Brentwood and Franklin are both very nice places to live. They are prototypical suburbs with low crime, good schools, a generally clean appearance, nice parks and other public places, and a low cost of living. Taxes are lower than in Nashville proper.

Update: The boys have been packed up and sent to the new house. Mrs Magill has been living there for the last month alone. Well, alone for two weeks. Squeaky (5) stayed behind after the first load was brought over the mountains. Spike (7) and Fang (11) joined them last weekend with the second load.

The movers are coming in a week to pack up and load the rest of the house, and I will become an official Tennessean.

I missed the May update, but welcome to the (extended) neighborhood!

Just chiming in to say, “Welcome!”

Are you ready to host the Doper Sleepover?
