Nashville (new ABC show)

It’s official – “Nashville” has been renewedfor next year. Yay!

Okay, kind of a dumb question, but … Jolene is dead, right? I couldn’t really hear what the reporter was saying in what Juliette saw on TV, but the visual on it was clearly a mug shot. My first thought was, if they took a mug shot she’s still alive, but then I realized that could just be a picture they could get of her, from a previous incident.

And yay for Scarlett for having a little backbone. If she does – are she and Avery going to get back together, now that he’s Learned His Lesson?

And it looks like the gay cowboy will get one of the story arcs next season.

I was under the impression that she was dead, but can’t say for sure if it was “officially” announced.

Scarlett’s song was the first one that fully suited her chirpy singing voice. It was excellent. And the daughter Maddie, singing with Deacon - jeez, did you have to stop the song because Dad came in the room? That was excellent! (I know - it’s the Lumineers song and she sang the whole thing during soundcheck last ep or two ago)…

I watch the show for the music and kinda let the plot twists flow by. But damn, I am so tired of the Gunnar “my brother died, so maybe I need to be dangerous” storyline. Just stop it.

I am glad it got renewed.

Yeah, looks like next season is going to be about father-daughter relationships – Maddie and Deacon/Teddy, Tandy and Lamar.

Next week’s iTunes songs from Smashville…

Who’s Your Daddy?
Fallin’ Off The Wagon Agin.
Poppin’ Pills And Poppin’ Guns Don’t Mix.
Still Sad In A Pretty Red Dress.
He’s Here, He’s Queer, Get Over It.
Wholesome, Not Folsom - That’s The Way To Go, Son.
Lost My Dog, But The Other Bitch Gave Me A Kid.

I’d buy that CD.

Didn’t see last night’s episode yet (returning from a business trip) but the guy playing tambourine in Juliette’s band is a friend of mine. Did he get any frames of screen time?

Amen to this. Just tell them you’re setting your dead brother’s lyrics to music–that’s a much better story! And much more believable than his “I’m a loner, Dottie. A rebel.” routine.

Also, if you don’t want your kid to find out who her real daddy is, don’t keep a copy of the paternity test in your Forbidden Closet of Mystery.

A couple seconds. Long enough for me to think “huh- the guy’s wearing his tambourine. Never seen that before.”

Jolene is dead, yes. The reporter mentioned an “apparent murder/suicide” and also referenced the fact Dante was her “sober companion” but speculation is they were both high when they died (which is, of course, true).

I’d let a couple of episodes stack up on the DVR before I got back to this, but I do still like the show, though I agree Gunnar’s story line is somewhat rolleyes-worthy. Next week’s finale should have plenty of fireworks, and I’m looking forward to next season’s developments (Tandy vs. Lamar should be interesting).

Yeah, the way Gunnar and Avery have both done 180s lately is kind of eye-rolling, but I like the Rayna/Deacon story line and the others are not bad. I also like that Ted is not a bad guy, but feels like his relationship with his daughters is threatened by Deacon’s presence and he doesn’t want to lose them like he lost Rayna. As a parent I get that insecurity.

Also that last song by Scarlett needed more tambourine! Seriously, though, there was some good music last night all the way around, from Avery’s pick-up roadie band, Scarlett’s performance, Will’s audition, Rayna and Deacon’s bed duet, the brief Hey-Ho reprise from Mattie… good stuff.

ETA: Sorry, “last night” because that’s when I watched it, not when it aired.

Yanno, despite what we were all saying at the beginning of the season about “too many characters,” Callie Khouri seems to have gotten us all onboard. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Tandy-Lamar thing works out, and I don’t think Will’s addition does anything but enhance the various storylines.

Juliet never takes any responsibility for her action jeeze!

Well, they did kill off three characters – Jolene, Dante, and Jason (Gunnar’s brother) – but I would agree the multiple story lines have evolved to the point where they all seem mostly equally interesting. Having Lamar seen as weakened and both Teddy and Tandy’s ongoing attempts to thwart and/or fight him has done wonders for that story line, not to mention rehabilitating the over-the-top villainy of Lamar and clarifying Tandy’s role in the company.

I expect the season finale will set-up a number of major ongoing conflicts including Juliette dealing with her mother’s death, the re-emergence of the Scarlett/Gunnar/Avery triangle, Tandy vs. Lamar for control of Wyatt Industries, and of course, Rayna/Teddy/Deacon/Maddie (who now knows she is not her father’s daughter, but doesn’t seem to know she is Deacon’s – and Deacon doesn’t know either). And oh yeah – they have (some damn good) music on the show too.

Forgot to mention this earlier- I assume the gift box Scarlett received from “the guy in the audience” was from Avery. But what was the significance of a whisk?

Nice catch - I was curious about this, too…

When she was initially worried about singing in front of people, he had her practice with a whisk in their kitchen.

I have to say, I’m loving this show. I agree that the characters have stabilized enough that I care about them all now (as much as I occasionally want to punch one or two of them :dubious:)

Yeah, they showed that scene in the “previously on” montage, but it was right at the beginning and pretty quick. That was from one of their earliest episodes; I thought it was kind of cool (and possibly foreshadowing?) to see the callback to when Avery and Scarlett were together.

Yeah, that was the first time I didn’t really mind her singing voice. I still can’t stand her speaking voice or how she dresses, but on the whole I think her character has potential: I’m glad she stood up to Gunnar, and I really liked how with the whole Opry thing she was very humble but didn’t protest too much.

Ditto!

Ditto.

First time posting!!!

I was eagerly anticipating “Nashville” last October when I heard that Jonathan Jackson (Avery) had a role. I’m very fussy about what I watch on TV and “Nashville” has become my favorite show! With great music, writing and acting you can’t go wrong.

Just wanted to mention that Jonathan Jackson started out and worked for many years on daytime TV and won five Emmy Awards! He’s also been in feature films and has his own band. I was getting a little worried that they might phase his character out since they changed Avery to someone quite nasty. Glad he has more airtime now; he’s an exceptional actor and you’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg in his role as Avery. In other words; he didn’t win those Emmys for nothing.

Wish they hadn’t killed off Jolene. Would have loved to have seen her relationship with her daughter grow stronger; they were doing pretty well for awhile.
